Putting a TV on a partition wall

I'm currently re-designing my brother's bedroom and he has a 42" TV. Ideally due to space, I'd like to put it on the wall. However the wall it would need to go on is a partition wall. The TV weighs about 25kg. Would this be OK or should I go back to searching for a tall, narrow TV table to put it on.

I take it you are talking about a normal internal wall comprising plasterboard over wooden studs.
Do not attempt to fit the TV onto the plasterboard - it isn't strong enough. You must screw the fixing bracket to the wall studs (the vertical pieces of wood) underneath the plasterboard.
Finding where the studs are is a bit messy, you can tell roughly where they are by tapping the wall. Then I push a small screwdriver (2mm diameter) every 25mm or so through the plaster. If it falls through then it's plaster if it doesn't then it's probably wood. I don't use a drill at this stage so I don't drill any cables.
Studs are usually on 400mm or 600 mm horizontal centres so finding the next one along is fairly easy.
Hint - sockets and light switches are not usually mounted on the wooden studs. You end up with a line of small holes in the wall, easily fixed with polyfilla - and you are probably going to put a TV over them.
Now you can either screw the bracket straight on to the studs, if the fixing holes line up. Otherwise screw a piece of thick plywood to the studs and the TV bracket to the studs.

Agree with advice so far. Do not attempt to mount this TV on plasterboard only. Need to use the studs.
You can get stud detectors. Never used one myself, but assuming they do actually work, could be less messy than prodding a screwdriver into the plasterboard.0 -
Put it this way I hung an A4 sized mirror on a plaster wall and it fell down!Hi. I'm a Board Guide on the Gaming, Consumer Rights, Ebay and Praise/Vent boards.
