Sky Movies - Free for 1 or 2 months!!

Sorry for the duff link, try this one
The terms of the offer state:Sky Movies Offer: Sky Movies available free for Sky TV customers for the first month. After one month you will continue to receive Sky Movies at £8-16pm depending on your package unless you cancel in the first 28 days of trial period. Upfront payment may be required. Offer ends 18 April 2013.
I believe that the reference to " Upfront payment" would reflect the fact that Sky bills customers 14 days in advance of a billing period, so a customer might be billed for a future period during the trial, which would then have to be refunded via an amended or subsequent bill.
However, staff have tried to apply 31 days notice (the normal terms & conditions) and have advised customers to cancel Sky Movies the moment they've ordered the trial, to avoid being charged for a subsequent month.

Which rather defeats the purpose of the promotion- a free trial of Sky Movies- from the perspective of the customer and Sky, doesn't it?:think:0 -
i rang but because i am on a offer, 25% off, you can't have another offer
This seams pretty standard. Its very rare you can stack offers in shops. Its only Boots that you'll often find offers that can be stacked.
The good old "Not in conjunction with any other offer" small print.0 -
To add to this - they also sent me a wifi connector for my Sky box so I can access the on demand features. I've had a look & I'm not that fussed on using it, so just sold the connector on ebay for £31Best competition wins:

hmm I have fallen foul to this one but I still believe I am in the right.
I am on 1/2 price subscription for 12 months but dont have sports or movies. Logged into my sky account and was presented with the 1 month free movies offer. Chatted online with sky representative who told me it would not affect my current offer, and that I could add it, cancel within 28 days and get the free movies - my sub wouldnt change.
I submitted the order and it said future payments would be £26 if I kept the movies which showed it charged the movies at half price just like the rest of my sub.
Next bill came with full price for the whole package except HD was still 1/2 price - they want £38 I think instead of my usual 18 and then 33 in subsequent months!
One customer resolution form has been rejected as they said I had upgraded package and so lost my 1/2 price offer. Another one has been submitted today. Very annoyed as I specifically checked with sky I could have the movies for a month then revert back and nothing would change, it wouldnt affect any existing offers etc. :mad:0 -
dave76,
Sky may be able to point to a previous letter explaining the terms of your half-price offer, and this may have indicated that you would return to full price if you changed your package.
However, you may be able to point to how the movies offer was marketed to you on Sky's website? I know that the offers page, for example, refers to "great offers just for you", so depending on the wording of what you saw there may be an argument that the offer was personally marketed to you, in the knowledge that you had a pre-existing offer?
Also, during the course of a complaint, Sky should be able to obtain a copy of the "Live chat" conversation if you don't have one yourself.
I would advise to consider following the Sky Customer Complaints Code of Practice if necessary and advise Sky that you are aware that you can refer the matter to their ombudsman after 8 weeks if you remain dissatisfied (see full details in the Code of Practice).
The ombudsman service is free for consumers to use and " funded by the companies it handles complaints about", partly through a case fee, which is designed to encourage companies to resolve complaints in-house.0 -
Thanks pen1, sounds useful advice. I do have as copy of the live chat, always save those0

The 2 months free offer is just that, so to get it free cancel after 30 days. Even if you miss it by a day or 2 it'll only charge you for those 2 days not a whole month.0

I think there's more than one offer being discussed here, Blackburn, as there was a one month "free trial" running to 18/4/13, that required customers to cancel in the first 28 days of the trial if they didn't wish to pay from month 2 onwards.
Several customers experienced difficulties because staff didn't appreciate it had different terms and tried to apply 31 days notice.
