    great news muppet81

I have been in your situation too, and life is too short and work time is way too long to be stuck in a horrible job. Just as I decided to resign I got a job offer too. :)

Good luck and well done on leaving a job that was making you miserable - as others have said it might be worth speaking with your local CAB or law drop in centre to see whether there's any sort of employment law claim that you have.

In your post you said "We have family commitments lined up for the next few weekends in that we have invited elderly relatives to stay for the next few weekends. The intention was to spoil them whilst they were with us but now I am worried about the money. Would never dissapoint them" - just remember that you can spoil people without spending tons of money - time and effort is appreciated at least as much - often more so! So could you - for example - cook a lovely dinner or go for a drive / walk in the country or park? It may not be as extravagant as you had originally planned but that won't mean that they won't feel spoilt or have a good time - after all they're coming to see you!

Woohoo Muppet, I'm dead chuffed for you!

I'm pleased for your new employer too, as they have obviously chosen someone with sensitivity and intelligence and they will benefit from it.

So, there is a lesson for anyone struggling along in a job they hate - just do it, it will work out!
Oh dear, here we go again.
