Sadly 6 hens in our small garden is maximum. The rest is given up to growing veg, strawberries and rasberries. On paper I sound to do it all right but oh dear .............:o :o:o

a 3 Ltr box of wine  Probably not a wise idea at the moment, I would end up pickling myself whilst feeling down;)

You might already know this but on the job hunting front - when you sell yourself, think of every little thing you have done in your old job and really make it sound cool e.g if you take phone calls, go to meetings and talk to people face to face - this can become 'I am able to effectively communicate with people in many situations'.
Also - even if you have to claim benefits, remember you have paid into the pot all your working life and are now just cashing in a little on your 'insurance'. So don't feel bad about it.

It's early days yet to be panicking and please don't think you've no chance of getting another job. Have you thought of signing up with a temp agency? It's a good way to see around different places and see where else you might like to work. There are a lot of temps in my work and I can tell you that a sensible 50 year old who isn't going to be taking sickies because of hangovers (if you can avoid the pickling in wine :)) would be snapped up in seconds.

The other thing is don't forget you have for many years exchanged your time for money. You're now making the exchange the other way. You'll have time to shop frugally and to consider making things you would previously have bought. So you won't be freeloading, you'll be earning money by saving money (if that makes sense).

But I'd bet that this is a blip and if you want to work (which you might not for a little while anyway) you'll be working again in no time.

    Good luck!

I can't begin to tell you how much it has helped to have "company" this morning. I think I would have been climbing the walls by now without you all.

Please keep the sympathy coming ..... I am alternating between feeling a bit positive and having a damn good cry because I already miss my workmates.

I have already sent my CV to an agency but I did not specify temping as an option. I will give them a call later when they have had chance to look at my CV and discuss that.

If you have been put in a position to leave your job, you could (& should) pursue taking action against your employer.
Did you seek advice from your Dr regarding the stress? If so you can still take action for construtive dismissal up to about a year after leaving work.
Check it out. I did it and it took 2 yrs to get to tribunal, but I won in the end.
Were you in a union? I was but they were useless, but may be worth a try. I went to a solicitor on a 'No win, no fee' basis.
Give it a think. If you have any proof that you left because of the stress, do check it out.

Dont be down about this, 50 is not old by a long chalk, and try to think of it as a new beginning. If you,ve worked all your life you must have a vast amount of experience at your fingertips and company,s are now recognising this fact. If your OH is hard working then you now have a bit of time to pamper him, he will appreciate this I,m sure. You will now not use money to travel to and from work, you will not have to buy your lunch, and if this was a place that had many females getting married, leaving for a new job, having babies, having a night out for birthday,s ect (men too) this money will be staying with you for a while. Take it easy on yourself for a while and find out what you want to do with your life. You have a great oppertunity here, make it work. Good luck

    Hi,

Please don't feel too down or down on yourself either. Theres nothing worse than being stuck in a job where you feel miserable and trapped so on a positive note you have put an end to something that was making you feel unhappy.

I have worried myself about being too old when applying for jobs (I am 40) but I think reliability counts for a lot these days. Like somebody else said, employers want somebody thats going to turn up every day not have sickies for hangovers etc etc. Also older people generally have more common sense and more life experience which I think also counts for a lot so keep your chin up, I think you will be ok.

I can't say that really was the case, just that he thrived on chaos and clutter, whereas I am organised and methodical. We could not work together. Plus at the end of the day he was as mad as a march hare.

Oh and by the way ... he is a solicitor so I may struggle on the suing front

Just wanted to add my sympathies - I'm in a very similar position with a change of boss - I think I may be subject to a bit of "bullying", but because I'm in the middle of a divorce, etc., money is extremely tight and I just have to ignore as much as I can!!

Just as soon as I get out the other side of the divorce (with my massive settlement of course!) I'm going to do exactly the same as you and oh boy am I going to enjoy it!
