My lunchtime has disapeared and I haven't managed any stitching. Hopefully I'll get some done tonight. My flowerpot cat is coming along nicely.
Bit annoyed. ordered a couple of bits from e*ay - one has turned up with half the aida missing !! and one is missing its chart. Neither a problem as plenty of stash to replace missing aida and I have the chart (somewhere) for the kit (ordered a spare for extra thread/card mount) but annoying nonetheless. I wish people were honest in their listings.
That is annoying, have you tried contacting them in case they forgot to post those bits?? (hopeful I know) Just hope chart comes with magazine I won, I did ask before hand and she said it did.
Thinking on from my previous post I may convert the Anchor colours for Tatty Ted to DMC as have more DMC threads in my stash and have always bought DMC and not Anchor iyswim!0 -
Hi All,
I am new here but an avid cross-stitcher. However since the birth of my DD I've barely done a stitch (she's now 18mo :O ). I work full-time and am pregnant atm and I barely have the time or energy to make a cup of tea once DD is in bed. I just have a couple of questions really:
1) For those of you with toddlers, where do you keep your stitching in order that tiny hands don't interfere with it? I keep my stitching in a bag which isn't doing it any good, and is a faff to keep getting out. I think if I had it in my frame I'd be more inclined to do it as it would be ready to go whenever the mood took me. But I just KNOW my DD would be all over it like a rash!
2) I'd like to design my own ... designsand I wondered if any of you could recommend some good software for this? I'm after something contemporary with lots of modern fonts.
Thanks! I hope to stick around and perhaps even find the motivation to finish some UFOs!0 -
Hello All,
This is me sheepishly peeking round the door of this shiny new thread. I haven't posted in a while but I have been keeping up with all your news. Lovely to see and hear about all your projects.
I like the title as well, I can't help but add more and more things to my to do list after a visit here!
As far as actual stitching goes, I've been doing a few bits and pieces which needed done for birthdays and other things. It's quite satisfying getting these started and finished in a few days, but at the same time it's stopped me working on my big projects. Anyway, I'm back to my horses pattern again and really want to get it done.
Hope you're all keeping well and getting lots of stitching done! x0 -

Welcome!! I'm in the same boat (albeit not pregnant!!) I have an inquisitive 2 half yr old and a 5 year old. As I stitch with a hoop I store everything in a big plastic holdall (a gift to myself at Legoland last year!!) though I know those with a frame put theirs in a pillowcase.
I struggle to find the time and sometimes get into the mood but once I start there's no stopping me!!
Sorry can't help re software xx0 -

No - I should really but its not worth the hassle. I've found the missing chart from my own stash (and on checking the listing - it doesn't say the chart is included!!) and I'll replace the aida (which had been cut !!) as I have lots spare (its a card kit). I think the aida thats left would just about fit but I won't risk it. Its just irritating.
IN OTHER NEWS - further to my posts in the last thread - does anyone have any issues of Cross Stitch Gift Shop? To help narrow things down, this magazine was first published in late 1999 !!!!! It was published by the same people as World of Cross Stitch and Cross Stitch Card Shop.
I am interested in particular to know if Issue 1 contained this design.

I've been trying to track down the original magazine for the bookworm design for a little while ( a few years now! - getting (slightly) obsessed about it now !!!). The page its featured on is xmas themed (headed stocking gifts) so I suspect it was included in an xmas issue.0 -

I know I've got some Cross Stitch Gift Shop issues, but at the moment I literally can't get to my magazines! I just tried to see the box files and read if the titles were written on the side, but couldn't get close enough. It may be a few weeks before I get chance to dig my way into that area, so please give me a nudge at the end of month if no one else can help you before then.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

That would be great - THANKS. :j:T
I don't think the design I'm after was in Issue 1 although I could of course be wrong. I think it might be the xmas after (so around about xmas 2000?!). From looking at the issue of Cross Stitch Gift Shop that I have (issue 2) it looks like Issue 15 of Cross Stitch Card Shop will be the issue to refer to for any sneaky pics of the xmas issue of Cross Stitch Gift Shop (xmas 2000!!). Told you I was obsessed!0 -

Love the new title chicky And I hope your head is ok today
I posted this message on the old thread so have cut and pasted it here
RuthI love Sew it All - they haven't been at a show I've attended recently but I have bought from their website. They used to do special offers at shows of 10 assorted pieces of fabric for £x and I always used to come home with one of their bright yellow bags.
Black Sheep usually have some good bargains if you like xs kits (and they will have loads of wool if you are a knitter)
I agree about Craft Lines although they usually have some reduced items on the stall and I have found the occasional gem.
Abakhan are great for patchwork and dressmaking fabric (and sell loads of wool but as I rarely knit I can't comment on prices or quality). Sew Enchanting also have beautiful quilting fabric.
But overall there isn't a lot to inspire a dedicated cross stitcher so I think you may have lots of pennies to spend at the fudge stall
Looking forward to seeing what you do buy - have a great day.
Maria and Ailsb I feel your pain - reverse stitching is so disheartening and takes so long. The Leopard seems like a real bargain
Mags Hope your Dad improves soon
I watched the Sewing Bee last night and enjoyed it. Will probably watch again next week though it wouldn't be on my "must see" list so far. Interesting mix of contestants though.
Seeing those bright yellow bags at shows always made me smile. It was like being in a club.I haven't been to a show in years, but I think Sew It All have been at every one I've attended. Never bought from their website, though.

Hope everything's ok Eric
Also watched the sewing bee last night, loved it and definatly want one of those bias binding things!
Off for an early night now , I'm reading the complete works of Sherlock Holmes at the moment anyone else got any good books on the go?
I've just started my first Jodi Picoult book. Handle With Care. Heard great things about her, so hoping its a good book. That would be great - THANKS. :j:T

I found this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cross-Stitch-Gift-Shop-Magazine/dp/B003IW8KZY and the cover does look familiar. It's issue one and it is a Christmas one, although I can't tell if the Chart you want is in it. I know I have those Xmas frames, but they might have been from another magazine. If I don't have it, I can ask my mum to check her stash too.
Totally get being obsessed about something. Hopefully I can help you track it down.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Evening ladies
Lovely new thread thank you chicky.
Havent been on for a while have poped in and had a read and tried to catch up tonight and Maria has told me a few bits.
Hope every one is well and that apart from the unpicking going on with DD hope your projects are going well.
I have managed to do some stitching but have been spending time doing al sorts of crafty stuff, as well as some mending for a friend and have spent a bit of time shut away in my favourit room my small green house planting up seeds.
The photos of your works are as usual lovely well done all.
was going to add photos of what I have done but cant seem to so will try again later

I am almost positive I have seen a very similar design recently in one of the magazines, I will have a look through and see what I can find.0
