larlar -- you can just buy massive bags of spuds/carrots/onions etc to get the best price, even from supermarkets, then just keep them cool + dark...
even if they start to sprout you can just cut the shoots off and eat the rest .. as far as I'm concerned you can *see* when/if they are no good to eat and can ignore any dates on the packaging.. maybe that's just me... mr sheep certainly doesnt agree
On a serious note, my joining the GC coincided with some news report on a study on the amount of food that gets thrown out every week in the UK.. It just hit home to me and made me think that I just can't bear to throw perfectly good stuff away and waste the food (as well as the money). Once that thought got into my head then that made sticking to meal plans / planning from storecupboard stuff a whole lot easier...
Also everyone's support and tips on here really help too!
hope you enjoy your butternut squash coxy... inspiring me to go and make some too !CC1 £7,944.10

I used up the carrots that were in the fridge and have enough soup to last for me for lunches until Thursday so I am really pleased as 4 lunches for a few manky old carrots I think is good news on the savings front
.I added some onion a blob of butter and a dollop of lazy garlic with three teaspoons of coriander (I had only got ground stuff in no fresh) and its turned out very nice. I've just had some for lunch with some cheese and crackers from the cupboard and to me its a freebie lunch as everything I ate I have indoors anyway .Tonights no cooking night as I'm off to DDs for DGS birthday dinner.Onwards and upwards chums

Hello, just spent £2.74 on extra tasty cheddar in local deli. It does cost more but is very nice! And I use less than cheapy mild cheese so kind of money saving

My eldest is nearly 8 and can't swim properly yet so need to make sure we keep practicing cos at some point in the future I would love to go on a holiday and they need to swim....

Well I'm quite surprised in how well I'm sticking to budget, just by meal planning. There is more i could do to reduce this, smaller portions (I never get the amount right for pasta and rice, and prob use more meat than necessary), making treats like cakes, flapjack etc.
My weekly shop in mr Al was £37.43 and had to go back the next day for rolls as they were all out (BBQ season in full swing) so spent an extra £4.44 (freezing some rolls for later)
Total is £76.85/£160 this is week 2 of 4 (so don't think I'm doing too bad)Declutter 2020 - 267/2020 :j
