Hi everyon and Sea
Just want to say well done on losing at SW, I am a member but have only lost 6 pound in 5 months!!! how bad is that?!?!?! (health problems causing it) but am back on it 100%.
Today I spoke to MBNA and they have put me on a debt management plan (ie no interest and no charges each month) so I have moved myself a bit closer to sorting out my debts. Now only have one more card to do! I must pluck up the courage to do it!
I too tried to sort out my debts using CCCS but they wanted me and my partner to do a DMP but didn't think it was fair on my OH cos he has 'bailed' me out before and I got myself back into debt (babies, that what does it!!)!!!
oh well, on my own sorting my debts out from now and I swear I am NEVER going through all this again.
Keep up the good work Sea, all you hard work will eventually pay off!!!0 -
aliroo - thanks

I am no good with SOA and always feel bad examining them - I know daft!
But I am very naughty I could budget a lot more and cut back on things to offer my debts more on DMP but I don't. I know its wrong but I think I have 3 children and the last thing I want is them to grow up feeling money pressured. Now don't get me wrong they are not in designer clothes and they don't get pocket money but I like my £21 sky package (can't get any other TV here!) and we rent our DVDs from Tesco one at a time, we do eat out about once a month and they do have good birthday parties. Christmas does not cost us as all my surveys pay for that.
I know I am a really bad MSE I am just relieved we have breathing space with the DMP and I suppose should really pay more but then I get scared that if interest rates go up again then I would have committed to much.
Sorry waffling now but basically don't feel bad you are doing bloody well esp after a divorce and you are a much better MSE than me!0 -
Rayday, I don't think you're bad at all. When you have people other than yourself to consider, you can only do so much cutting back. Children already go without a lot when their parents are in debt, & while some of the cutbacks may make a lot of sense to us as adults & we relatively easily get used to them, sometimes they can really take their toll on children. You are cutting back where it matters (day-to-day living), yet giving your children good memories to look back on & you're also leaving yourself a financial cushion so that if interest rates do go up you can still manage. There's nothing wrong with that at all.
I've had loads of financial problems. I've got rid of subscriptions to magazines that I didn't even read properly & have cut back in other areas, but I've kept my Sky because I have a lot of illness & sometimes I'm grateful for the dross on tv that keeps my mind off my pain. It might not make sense to others who might believe I should be selling every square inch of my skin to sort my problems out, but until someone has walked in your shoes I think it's very difficult of them to judge.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Rayday,
How can u say ur a bad MSE'r when u say that the surveys pay for Xmas - that's a good MSE trait in my book!
I also decided to keep our Sky package, because my OH gave up smoking and going out 3 nights a week, so he needed something to keep him occupied!
You have made decisions based on what is best for u and ur family, only u can make that decision, and no one else will judge you for it!

Rayday - i'd agree with what's been said - we all keep something others would think of as being extragvagant! Don't worry about it, enjoy it and then do all you can in other areas to cover it! I have done this with the slimming world fees. I hope to 'recoup; the cost by using other things to pay for necessary items - such as ensuring I actually do the menu plans and stick to them, rather than attempting them and giving up halfway through. this in itself will save much more than the cost of the SW. You say you've got christmas sorted, so this will probably more than cover the cost and then some more besides
