Tobruk is right phil, you just don't get it ......... i never said you were not employable (those are your words not anyone elses), by doing voluntary work to gain office experience would give you skills required to work in an offcie and get paid, i volunteered at the CAB for 14 months, i got free training, experience, skills and made loads of friends, i also got a paid job out of it, i have no formal qualifications (unless you count 3 CSEs) but that did not matter as i had the experience my current employer was looking for.
    mustn't grumble

Alright, so can I do to get a decent job if all what I have is worthless?

Why does it have to be a 'decent' job?

Why cant you just get a job doing anything & get some experience out there in the big wide world?

You have many years to get that 'dream job' and can aim small for now.

Get a job, earn some money & keep on aiming for the 'dream job'.
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

So I have all these achievements, what can I do to get a decent job and make sure they arre not wasted?

Put some effort in. Stop being so precious. Listen to the advice of people on here. Do voluntary work in order to gain more skills. It always looks good on a CV. Whinging and whining, however, don't.

Funnily enough I think you'll find that Tesco, Asda, Morrisons etc also have offices

but then it does depend if the uniform is fetching or not

I have said that over and over that I would look a so stupid being over weight and disabled in a uniform like that and so I would never want to be seen in public in one of those uniforms.

I might as well with the confidence you lot put in me. I won't get the most basic office job because a school leaver will be more experienced. There seems no hope of me ever having a job.

and do you know why they get the jobs, because they WANT them, they go out and GET them

Nobody looks fetching in a supermarket outfit.

When I worked in a supermarket, there were three people with disabilities. Do you think people laughed at them? No. People thought 'good for them'.

SP, if people laugh at you, it is their problem. They are the ignorant ones, so don't let the !!!!!!!s grind you down.

Yes, maybe it will. Working unpaid at the library with all the database and excel skills I got there, setting up charity events and helping at things at uni unpaid have done nothing for me so far and so I do not know if more unpaid work will help.

I am sorry but I do not want laughing at and mocking in a job. I would rather not have one than that. I have bad enough self confidence as it is.

The large man who carts cages around our Asda & restocks the shelves throughout the day looks fine in his uniform.

oh, and he's got Cerebral Palsy too.

My daughter would also have no problem yanking a cage around Asda, unloading it & taking the empty one back to restock it.

    She has Cerebral Palsy too.

Why am I bothering? Why am I here?

I have a bath with a Lush Mango melt waiting. I've got a bag to pack for a 2 night stay away on Monday. I've got to get my uniform ready for work tomorrow. I've got to empty the tumble drier.

And here I am giving advice to someone who's not listening 36_1_42.gif

A career in retail is the last thing that I am interested in. I don't even like going shopping. It makes no difference if I get my NI paid or not as I have never paid any anyway.

The graduate /sainsbury analogy was an example!
Many of us have said this many times..stuff your interests just apply for all the jobs you can.

I never planned a career in retail but it was through retail I got into the music business. If I hadn't begun working in retail I would not have got into the position of meeting people like Meatloaf, Prince, EMF, Jools Holland, Ozzy Osbourne (and family), Richard Branson, etc etc all in the course of work. then as I said in a previous post, I found my dream career was a hellish nightmare.

NOTHING in this life guarantees you a job whether you have 1 GCSE ot 8 Msc/phds etc. NOTHING.

The sooner you realise that the better. It does matter if you get your NI paid or not once you are no longer an offical student! Unless of course you already have a fully paid up pension plan to rely on in 50+ yrs time!
