i notice that the suggestion of doing some voluntary work to gain some office experience fell on deaf ears once again .........mustn't grumble :cool:0

That is all I have struggled for these past few years at uni which I have hated to have a decent chance in life and now it seems all that suffering was pointless and you wonder why I am upset.:beer:0

You aren't getting it are you - I am not telling you what I have achieved! What I am trying to get across to you is that I had to train to do something else at 30 although I had qualifications before and thought my college days were something of the past. I was in a situation where although I had qualification they weren't enough as I had to think of jobs where I would be employable again and office work was a realistic option and a goal to get back into employment. To give myself a chance I took up those courses.
You say you have studied for 3 years at uni, well I had done years of studying but then I had to do more studying in order to have a chance of a good job! The fact that you have a degree doesn't mean much these days I'm afraid.0 -
I went to Asda today.
There is a chair behind each till. Some cashiers choose to sit. Others push their chairs under the till and stand.
Why did I notice this? What made me notice this? Why did I think of StudentPhil as soon as I noticed this? There I was waiting for my turn thinking 'oooo, SP could sit for a bit, then stand for a bit and he wouldn't have to stay in the same position for too long. He could even sing that song 'stand up, sit down keep moving......' as he zapped the beans.Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

The truth is I should have walked out of school in May 2002 and said I am never going to sit any qualifications and I will save myself all the great struggle of going to university and A levels and sitting GCSEs. I would be no worse off than I am now. The is a soul crushing reality.
Ok, so you regret what you have done but you made the decision and it's too late now. Get on with it. You have a degree, which is more than a lot of people have. You have a roof over your head and are not going hungry. Be thankful for what you have and for what you have achieved. A lot of people don't have the same chances. Be proud that you 'have struggled' and have achieved something.
Just stop whinging, it's boring the pants off everyone.0 -

Alright, so can I do to get a decent job if all what I have is worthless?:beer:0 -

Life changes all the time doesn't it. Its something SP isn't going to understand for a long long time me thinks
I worked really hard for 7yrs to get my management position & the fab salary I got. 3 weeks ago I gave it up. I've moved down 2 steps and cut my hours by just 8. My salary is now less than half of what it was.
Sometimes circumstances mean that things change no matter how much you dont want them too. It was one of the hardest things I've done.
You just have to accept what is happening & make the most of it.Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

I am not being choosy but a shop job is not going to get me the office experience I need to work at a university is it?
Funnily enough I think you'll find that Tesco, Asda, Morrisons etc also have offices
but then it does depend if the uniform is fetching or not0 -

So I have all these achievements, what can I do to get a decent job and make sure they arre not wasted?:beer:0
