    Phil,

You are disabled - the job centres have disability advisers, who will help you to get your first job.

Just go and see them - it's more help than just moaning!

    Lin

Lin I have had enough of telling him this (on numerous threads) and his reply is I'll do it as a last resort! Another thing is with his disability he should be claiming DLA but he won't because his parents wouldn't like it! He is certainly not helping himself

'What do you say to a graduate with a job?' '2 Big Macs please'.

Sorry Phil, couldn't resist it, but the fact that this joke exists surely shows that there are plenty of graduates around who have to start at a job which is possibly not the one they would like.

But it gives them work experience, self-esteem, referees, and they can still continue to look for a better job.

If you have to take what you consider to be a 'menial' job, just tell your parents that it is just a stopgap until you get something better. You say they are old. My parents were in their forties when I ws born (my dad was 46) and no way would they have taken that attitude - it's your life not theirs and I'm sure they would rather you had a job than be unemployed.

    Keep looking and keep trying.

And why do your parents even have to know what benefits you are claiming?

Mind you they probably go through his mail and question everything by the sounds of things! If phil took all the help available and advice given here he would be able to get a place of his own and start thinking for himself!

Well if his parents are controlling to that extent then he needs to get away from home and if it was me I'd take all the help I was given.

Phil, if you can't afford a place of your own at the moment, why don't you try lodgings? You can't have your parents running your life and dictating what you can/can't do for the rest of your life.

And, as people have suggested, get help from Disability Advisors and claim any benefits you are entitled to.

My parents only do it because they love me and want a job I can do safely and will have a future for me. I am going toget in touch and see if I can sort out a disability advisor next time I get the house to myself. In the mean time I have got in touch with a number of employers with vacancies who are on the two tick disability scheme in the hope that they might be more positive and it increases my chances.

I think the gist is, everyone on this very large thread wants you to keep trying to get the benefits you're entitled to and to perservere in getting a job, any job, ANY job, as long as it doesn't have internet access.

With income, a job, and experience in things you have no idea about yet, your horizons will widen and your chances of getting more specific jobs in areas you are keen on will dramatically increase.

    Phil,

With respect, your parents do not seem to have much idea about what a disabled person "needs".

Which is often the way - parents see their kids one way, sometimes, but being disabled doesn't mean that we have to spend our lives in a bubble - do what makes you happy.

You are right to apply to firms that want a few more disabled, and you are right to go and see a DWP Disability Advisor...................if you should be claiming DLA, then claim it - your disability is nothing to be ashamed of, and it's nothing to do with your parents what you claim!

Your parents appear to control and order you around in a way that is totally inappropriate for a guy your age - you really have to cut the strings, and make them see that you can make decisions, and need to learn from your own mistakes. (I'm sure they love you, but they are doing you no favours at all).

In fact, if you want to save for a place of your own, then the more income you can get, the better....so claim the DLA (if you cannot manage the forms, then the CAB will help you)!:T

    Lin :)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
