My own personal opinion on these 'essentials baskets', is that if I saw one at a Wedding, I'd think 'aww cute!' and that you never know when you might need a safety pin, sewing kit etc etc, but also, I think they're probably the latest wedding fad and just another little extra that you don't really need.

my friend uses false eyelashes, she always forgets to take her glue bottle with her. A nail file would be handy too!0

I think it is a useful idea, maybe not entirely necessary but could come in handy. It wouldn't be expensive so why not?0

Well, I went to a wedding with a ceilidh recently and brought extra hair ties with me - gave a few away to some very grateful guests. They hadn't realised how hot it would get.
Bobbles, deodorant, chewing gum, safety pins & blister plasters woud always go down well, I'm sure.0 -
A wedding I went to recently had lots of items in little jars, on tables in the loos. Everything from perfumes, deodorant (you could do a quick underarm wash in the sink and spray some on if you had to!), plasters, cotton buds (which I found very useful to remove stray make-up), sewing kit, mints, hair bobbles and clips, brushes and combs etc. There had been baskets of flip-flops but they were all gone by the time I arrived!
They might not all be entirely useful to everyone, but it's a nice touch that makes guests feel welcome and comfortable. Obviously they cost a bit of money to set out, but not necessarily a lot compared to the cost of the actual wedding day!
