Definitely bobbles! I don't think to take them when I'm going somewhere all dressed up, but it gets pretty hot having long hair when you're dancing :)

At our wedding we had a supply basket with flip flops, condoms, tampons and sanitary towels, paracetamol and ibuprofen, sewing kit, hair grips, hair spray, plasters, sun cream, hair brush and hair bobbles actually I think there might have been mints as well.

Whats this with people believing no one has sex at a wedding? Never heard of guests staying the night or the actual bride and groom getting it on? We had to use condoms from the guest basket because we had forgotten to put some in our suitcase.

We put a toothbrush in each bedroom as well as if I ever forget anything when I'm going away it is always my toothbrush and you cannot just pop out and get one before you go to bed.

I think the baskets are a lovely idea!! Ive been to plenty of weddings where someone always asks for deodorant, hair pins or a safety pin so to have these to hand would be wonderful!

I think a sowing kit would also be amazing. When my sister got married i was bridesmaid for her and in a rush to get me ready she ripped the zip off the dress and we couldn't do it up! Luckily my mum had one to hand as she made a lot of decorations so was able to fashion a lace up for the back of the dress!!

I would find it quite funny to find a pack of condoms in the basket. Be helpful for people staying over night at the hotel, just because its a wedding doesn't mean people cant have sex after the wedding in the privacy of their own rooms and make it safe sex at that ;)

Most decent hotels have all the emergency supplies but not the flip-flops available for guests anyway ....and I don't think Travelodge do wedding receptions :D

I do think a lot of people take stuff from these kind of baskets whether they need it or not as many people love a freebie so the fact they are taken doesn't mean they were actually needed.

Personally I choose shoes dependent on what I'm doing. If I'm going to dance the night away I wouldn't wear heels I couldn't dance in - and I'd credit my friends with the same level of common sense or assume they'd do what I'd do and dance barefoot if they felt the need and their shoes hurt (don't have to be high to hurt).

I'm entertaining my friends and family not babying them ! I don't offer condoms to guests when they visit my home-why would I supply them at my wedding celebration ?

Our baskets were appreciated :) Some stuff went missing (someone swiped all the mints from the mens quite early on, and in the women's someone took the whole packets of blotting paper rather than just a sheet), but I did have guest saying "I used everything! It was brilliant!"

Yes guests stay the night (although personally I don't) but we're not talking about stuff left in guest rooms which seems appropriate, however this is about at the reception which is very different.

It just seems ridiculous to me to supply basics to people who should be capable of knowing what they need. If staying overnight then don't people take things with them?

Oh yes they do! http://www.travelodge.com.au/hotel-wedding-receptions :rotfl:

My own personal opinion on these 'essentials baskets', is that if I saw one at a Wedding, I'd think 'aww cute!' and that you never know when you might need a safety pin, sewing kit etc etc, but also, I think they're probably the latest wedding fad and just another little extra that you don't really need.

And 50's! Some of my customers do only because I've found the empty packet in his pyjama pocket

I have been at weddings where i have used some of the stuff from the baskets especially the sewing kits - ended up sewing the bridesmaid dress at one wedding and my own dress at another!

We did the baskets at our wedding, just one for the female toilets an one for the male toilets (Have to say the male one was a lot harder to do)

They don't cost much - pound shops are great, and are appreciated by at least some of the guests.

I can't remember everything we included but it definately included

    Mints
    Selection of Sweets
    Hairbrush/comb
    Hairspray
    Hairgel
    Deodorant
    Sanitary products
    Hairclips/baubles
    Plasters
    Sewing kit

Did not provide painkillers - as there was children at the wedding and didn't want the accessing the tablets easily and didn't provide condoms either
