I am looking for a decent spec PC for personal use eg the Dell 5000 with 17" tft. I am new to all this so want to try my best to get a good deal. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I see some sood deals on old threads but they seem to have expired now. I dont want to be too greedy but it would be nice to get one of their "misprices" that have been talked about.

    Thanks in advance.

Pepperoni - How long is a piece of string?

You need to have some idea of what you are after e.g. looking for a basic PC for the Web and WP, or a gaming PC, or just looking to buy cheap kit to sell on Ebay???

Hi biglugs...it's twice the length from the middle to the end!!

Apologies to Pepperoni - I did indeed direct my comments to the wrong person! And he/she is clearly correct about the length of the string.

As to the best deal I personally don't think there's anything on the Dell website that leaps out at me. Certainly not anything that I would consider a real bargain. I'm now waiting for a sub-£280 deal with a 17" TFT.

Dell are becoming the bain of my existence!

I ordered a laptop 2wks ago - they sneakily tried to overcharge me by £60 for the so-called free delivery, becos "their" computers said I was 3secs late for the offer. They gave-in and refunded it after a week and five calls to the CS.

I then (against my better judgement) ordered the dimension 3000 £293 offer with Modem, Floppy and DVD/CDRW over the phone - They "mistakenly" ordered a CD Drive, I noticed on the confirm sheet and called them back to amend, they amended and for some strange reason, changed the monitor from Flat screen to 17" CRT!!!

    Can't Dell get anything right?
Is it a conspiracy? or is it just my bad luck!

The PC is not yet delivered, even after the salesman promised "special" delivery & is now too late for it's purpose ("birthday pressie this Friday - today)

    Anybody else experienced this mess?

Their current offer seems too good to miss for the Inspiron 6000 but could someone please help me choose the right processor and graphics card and optimise it for wireless networking.

I am completely ignorant about what goes with what. Help needed please.
