Hey Funki
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 from a previous bargain offer on this very fine site....I digress....basically I picked up a Creative 5.1 sound blaster card at their refurb shop for about £8 (included drivers and software) and have some Creative Inspire P580 5.1 speakers that cost me £35, have a look at em here http://uk.europe.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=4&subcategory=25&product=9273
Cheapest I can find is http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=602464 - £35 inc VAT (dunno about postage)
....but not spent too long looking to be fair.
Anyways the sound is damn fine to me! Sure other folk will have suggestions but I have no complaints.
Hope this helpsmake your own time, you're welcome in mine0 -
Thanks Cortes, cleared that up about the sound card. Speakers look like what I'm after too.0

Have some 5.1 surround sound fun!
P.S. Dunno if you use winamp but there is also a plug in for the sound blaster which sounds great! Man I'm turning into a GEEK!make your own time, you're welcome in mine0 -
I need advice from anyone who has brought a dell
Brought mine late on friday night, received the finance documentation on sunday by email which was faxed back first thing on monday
As yet no order still doesn't appear on-line, it says if it is not there within 72 hours then contact them which I have.
1. By email - no reply
2. By phone - stuck in an eternal loop of bad music
What is the normal time scale to at least receive communication from Dell ?
Thanks in advance0 -
I've never used the finance option but I once had to wait a full week from placing the order to receiving confirmation0

anyway of saving a few pounds at Dell by not having one in the "package" ? can I buy just the base unit somewhere ?0
-
wolf306 - they are a royal pain.
not known for fantastic service. Sometimes computers appear on the doorstep that you thought had been forgotten.
I bought a laptop 2 weeks ago - heard nothing.
sallen 2 - yes you can, but you wont save anything in the dell site usually. online auctions are often cheapest, but i would advise you to try your luck at the dell outlet (keep checking - it usually drops some in at 35 minutes past the hour.) Its on the main dell site - front page under the home section. These computers come without monitors etc. But always compare the prices with those on the main site, it is a lottery but you can definitely pick up a bargain if you are patient.

It would be more cost effective to buy a misprice or one of the better offer packages and sell the monitor privately. With the recent Dell bargains you couldn't have even bought the base unit for the price they were selling the complete package for. However you can't be sure when these offers will happen so its only good if you're not in a rush.
Cheers

What is the best place to look for DELL misprice etc. I always miss them. I would like a 5000 with 17 or 19 TFT with decent spec.0
