Yeah, it's a decent deal. Think you get a free printer, too.

An identical spec machine was £233 the other week when they had their misprice, that's when I grabbed one :D

Can anyone tell me if these P4 machines come with an AGP graphics slot, or are they only PCI like the Celeron machines? Cheers

    Hi All,

I was told the other day, that the Dell machines are not particularly standard, in as much that they are hard to upgrade using third party equipment.

They apparantly use there own motherboard and to upgrade, you are forced to use Dell for the components?

I would worry that this would include memory upgrades Etc.

Can anyone say just how standard they are/not, please?

    Thanks

When it arrives (7 to 10 days according to my order confirmation) I will open it up and have a good fettle about inside.

I will be looking to double the ram and add a DVD-RW, so I will post my findings on the "upgradeability" (Dont even think that's a word).

I usually build my own PCs, but even from my trade suppliers I cannot get close to that price, and then there's probably 3 hours labour involved in building, installing windows etc etc.

It's nowhere near as bad as a lot of people say. Yes, it used to be a problem a while ago but not anymore.

Memory, hard drives, optical drives and CPUs are all standard, and nowadays the cases are standard ATX or Micro ATX form factors so they can usually accept standard motherboards and Power Supplies.

So, rizla01, whoever told you that is wrong :D

Yep I got one on the last deal and it seems pretty much upgradeable to me. Granted its only PCI mainboard but there are three slots available, there are only two memory slots which are populated so you'd have to replace whats there. The only thing that I will find to be an issue is that the case doesn't have standard bays to mount a floppy or further hdd, they need extra brackets to do this which I bet dell charge ££££ for. Still its nothing that a bit of aluminium, a hack saw and a drill won't sort out :-)
