    Rubbish.

Where do you get that definition of "roadworthy" from?

It's nonsense, and were you correct would mean no-one could drive their car away after a fail.

Everyone should ignore your scaremongering post.

Is one blown main beam unroadworthy?

I love my driveway. No need to change tax discs on the stroke of midnight...any time will do....to take the car onto the road that is. Can't believe there are jobsworths that would give FPN's on the first day without giving the owner at leastsome time to get to the post office to renew....yes I know it should have been done last Thursday but come on who really cares it's an administrative oversight.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

It depends on what they have done to upset the authorities over the past twelve months.

Poor advice. Something would have happened had you been spotted/caught/involved in an accident etc, and definitely not very MSE - think the cost involved had you been caught!

    You got away with it.

It is an offence to have an untaxed vehicle on the road. (You get 14 days of grace to tax it before you get done by dvla, but during those days you must not put it on the road or face the consequences if you get caught)

It's not advice. I'm just stating what happened to me.

Tax disc database still shows 'Due to expire' for the whole of the month after the disc expires.

    Well.....

You told us you broke the law and got away with it, as well as opined that:
I think the OP is over reacting.

It's not over reacting to be worried about taking an untaxed car on the road!

ANPR won't hit you for being a few days late. Maybe I'm just lucky I don't live next to jobsworth ticket issuers.

My tax disc is back dated to the 1st Dec so I've paid for what I used.

The police could pull you over for a blown main beam. Whether they decide to take action is another matter.

The are some defects that require immediate prohibition, some are delayed prohibition (so you can drive away to get them fixed) and some are advisory. Some of the advisory ones can still mean your car isn't legal and you risk prosecution.

That depends on whether the failure was justified or not. MOT stations aren't infallible - I've even heard shocking rumours that a few have failed perfectly roadworthy cars just to get a bit of extra repairs business.

In any event the car is no more illegal to drive after it fails than it was before, and if the fault is minor the chances of actually getting into trouble for it are often negligible. The whole point of getting your MOT done a month before it expires is so that you have a bit of time to get faults fixed without being unable to drive.
