hi
forgot to renew and left it to last minute as ususal.
Time has come to renew and DVLA website is down.
Worred about getting caught by a parking attendant tomorrow without a ticket. I know that if you order online you're given a 7 day period to display old tax disc until you get the new one.
Is there such a grace period for offline tax disc order delay?
I will of course retry tomorrow at the DVLA site.

I've got a similar problem...
Tax and MOT both due on 31 March
Tried to renew my tax on 24 March... wouldn't let me because the MOT was close to expiring and had to be renewed first.
Had car MOT'd on 25 March.. failed due to a minor problem with headlights, need to order a main dealer part which won't be available till 4th-5th April... not a problem for the MOT as I have 10 working days for a re-test BUT I won't be able to tax it till at least 4th April.
Ok I know I'd left it late-ish to renew tax and MOT (one full week before they both ran out) but it still seems to be a stupid system that refuses to recognise a valid MOT!0 -
But it is not a valid MOT on 1st April. The same would apply to insurance. You can MOT a month in advance so why leave it to the 11th hour.Ok I know I'd left it late-ish to renew tax and MOT (one full week before they both ran out) but it still seems to be a stupid system that refuses to recognise a valid MOT!IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I don't quite understand your point?
As I said I tried renew the tax a full week before the the MOT ran out but wasn't allowed.
My MOT cert states ''Valid until MARCH 31 2013'' so why don't dvla and (according to you) insurers recognise that??
Effectively you don't actually get 12 months MOT you only get 51 weeks.
I accept I'd left it a bit late (due to being on holiday) but I still hardly think a full week could be described as leaving till the 11th hour.0 -

The mot must be valid when the disc starts.0 -
You wouldn't need to worry for 3 weeks or so, it takes ages for the system to change you from due to expire to expired.
If, the system was as strict as made out, you went unlicensed at midnight and face a penalty. Of course, in the real world nothing changed on the change of date.
I had this problem for years as my insurance expired in the days before my tax so I had to wait to renew my tax as I don't like waiting at the post office - I was never fined.
Likewise, earlier in the year, I cancelled my car insurance and didn't sorn it whilst it waited to be sold. Again no fine even though it must be continuously insured!0
