Thanks Wig. I have noticed that in some express stores they do not give points because it is 'esso's' fuel.
Bit silly really...
Anyway, I agree with what you say. How can a company sill try and pride thereselves in being the best value for money when clearly they are no longer.'EVERY LITTLE HELPS'.............Well, every little does help when you shop there now!!! You'll need it. They may have gained customer confidence at one point with their low prices, but now they are becoming too greedy by 'stealth' price rises.BEWARE MR 'T'... THE CUSTOMERS ARE BEGINNING TO NOTICE THIS!!!SHAME ON YOU MR 'T'!!!Keep smiling...:rotfl::T0 -
Just been to Tescos in Seacroft, Leeds and was shocked to see they are selling unleaded at 94.9p litre. Now I know petrol prices are on the up recently, but there is a Shell just 2 mins down the road from me that is selling petrol at 93.9p, and various other petrol stations (I think Sainsburys at White Rose) is still selling at 92.9p.
I've seen Shell and BP petrol stations opposite each other selling unleaded at different prices (BP always seems higher, but that might not always be the case).
I would not worry too much about 1p per litre, as how much are you really going to save by driving miles to save a few pence? The money, Dave...0 -
You were wrong because you said "there is no real point..." .......There is a point as I have explained in great detail to you. In case you need it in simplistic terms.......... The point of this thread is a warning that Tesco is no longer to be relied upon to be the cheapest.
I don't need it explained to me, perhaps idiots who actually need told that Tesco don't always have the cheapest fuel, need told, since they seem incapable of reading petrol prices!0 -

The point here is, Tesco used to be the cheapest. and they boasted that too. Then over the years, they have forced stations to close. This in effect gave them the monopoly. Now they have no real competiotion, they have hiked prices.
If they had not forced so many stations to close in the 80s and 90s, their petrol would still be cheapest.
They have done it with food too. On a recent trip to Poland (Yes yes, they have all come here, and good for them) I was in a supermarket, not sure now what it was called (Not Carrefore) but walking through the fruit and veg, I was over powered by the smell of fresh produce. Carrots, apples... the smell was so nice. Anyway, I noticed all root veg still had their greens attached and some soil on them. Everyone knows, fresh food keeps longer like this. Also noticed, their pepper were truly amazing to look at. All sorts of odd shapes around a million different shades of red green and yellow. (Truly natural looking) Price 6zl which = about £1.20, now this sounds ok, goto Tesco and you get 3 peppers for about £1.50 but in Poland, it was £1.20 for a Kg. that worked out at nearly 12 peppers. (over £5 at Tesco) This got me thinking, where did the peppers come from? through searching the box and labels, they were class 1 Spain. (Same as Tesco) But these looked and smelt and tasted better than Tesco. So why are we being ripped off? Are we eating un-natural frankenstein food? (Oh for those who have never been to Poland, go, its cheap at the moment, and Polish Vodka is excellent. (Approx £5 for a bottle that tastes real good) I know this was Petrol, but just wanted to fit this in too.0 -

Are you really surprised that items in shops in a country with much lower wages are cheaper than here??
Perhaps you've not noticed all the Poles here who have been attracted by the far higher wages? The money, Dave...0 -
I think most people are pretty stupid considering that the world was and is moving into a global footprint for companies - Multinationals.
Tesco is a multi national as is Vodafone. Both are British and both are expensive in comparison to their rivals. However they need to be pricey and a little off hand with customers - they're of the 'Mr customer, if you dont like us go elsewhere, your only one customer of our millions" anyway they have to be aggresive to purchase foreign companies and setup abroad.
Did people honestly think that Tesco would be cheap forever? They are a company, they are loyal to profits. Customers are loyal to companies.
In any event its the public who put them where they are and unfortunately the public cannot bring them back down. It would take a severe competition for Tesco to start reducing their profit margins. Unfortunately Sainsburys, Waitrose and ASDA just arent big enough.
Its not all bad though........BOGOF's and CLUBCARD POINTS

My goodness I just wish some people would learn some basic netiquette. If a topic is of no relevance or concern to you then don't read it and certainly don't make pointless posts that serve only to detract from the OT and clog up the thread.
Thank you OP for bringing this matter to my attention. Although not incapable of reading petrol prices I haven't thought to bother doing so for quite a long time. I've always gone straight to Tesco garage believing it to consistently remains the cheapest garage in my area and handed over my clubcard while I'm at it.0 -
Thats because your an android!
Only kidding, your not really an android.0 -

No, not surprised at the price. Simply surprised at the better quality.
Can we have the same please?0
