I've still got an old Black and Decker router from their pro range, (if they ever had such a thing, it is in actual fact made by Elu, and that must be from 20 years back, it's outlived several 1/2" chuck models I've had since.

I don't think I actually stated a war about power tools but I obviously touched someone's button so let me explain.

I ran the engineering and electrical depts of a large manf Co, I used to buy/supply out to the engineers both mains/110v and battery power tools. Anything from drills to grinders to breaker drills etc

With the exception of Hilti, Dewalt out performed all others in terms of reliability, and I include Bosch, Makita etc, I mentioned the abuse they suffered earlier, in spite of that I don't recall sending any back for repair.

There was a ulterior motive to going with Dewalt initially, they were bright yellow.
We used to suffer a few loses and I thought that high Viz power tools would help avoid them being lost and I think it did, only problem was they were then too pretty and got nicked more often, restoring the status Quo. Sometimes you just can't win.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I guess you're being a little economical with your timing. A black and decker pro range from twenty years ago. They were cheap plastic crap by then so try adding a few years.

How long is it since you worked in that job?
Just because they were good years ago don't mean they still are

Look at mountfield lawn mowers. Built abroad and sold off cheap in the sheds

Unless you have exactly the same number of each tool from each brand and being used for exactly the same job for the same amount of time your reliability performance tests are flawed.

IMO Hilti and Festool are top quality great warranty/service back up with Makita just behind them.I like Bosch and Metabo but wouldn't entertain De-Walt again unless I want new braces or work trousers...

I had 3 Li-ion 3ah batteries that were dead and all 3 where over 4 years old but had light use.I sent them back to Makita UK asking them to test them.5 days later I received 3 new batteries which would have cost me just under £200-00 to replace.Being over 4 yrs old they didn't have too.

I had a problem with a De-Walt jigsaw, had very light use and was 13 months old when the shaft broke.Contacted De-walt and was told "repair would cost £75-00 + vat" even though it was 3 weeks over the 12 month warranty.Their cordless drill/driver were poor quality too ,unbalanced, poor clutch and batteries that didn't last past their warranty.

Its down to personal opinions ............as usual:D

And that is the only point I was making, that was my experience, is it worth warring over?, well obviously is to some, (not you leveller, I actually respect your opinions)

    What do they say?, used to have in my signature but MSE didn't like it:D;

"Opinions are like aceholes, everybody has one"

It would do some good to respect those of others others and share your view.

Differing is 1 thing, going all out to trash what someone else says is totally another.:A:A:A:A

I think we need to ask the mods for a "Handbags at Dawn" section on the MSE forums.
