I have snarfed 6 NSDs in April out of my target of 10.
But afraid to say that I find I spend a lot less money when buying what I need (note need, not want) when it is needed and also have fresher fruit/veg by buying it on the day I use it than doing a big shop in advance. Buying smaller when I need it also encourages me to walk more so has added benefits.
So I'm going to complete April shortly and will then bow out of future challenges.0 -
This week has gone to pot unfortunately

(I came across this amongst some recipes I'd cut out to keep, haven't tried it so can't vouch for the recipe:), but just in case anyone is in a 'free food' frame of mind...)
How to eat grass
Fresh young wheat grass is both digestible and palatable when chopped very finely and scattered on salads, muesli, or in stews to make up 25% of the volume.
Grass can be dried in a thick layer on a cloth, laid on an oven rack or refrigerator shelf rack, and placed in a well-ventilated place or, for faster results, over a radiator, stove or hot air duct. Straw tastes like straw, so only green dried grass should be eaten. Powder it by first chopping finely, then putting through a grain, food or coffeemill several times.
Dried and powdered, it can be added to any food to boost its nutritional value. Or - and this must rank with the first potato as a food 'discovery' - it can be mixed in powdered form with wheat or barley flour to make up to 50% (but ideally 25%) of the volume, and baked into truly delicious and sweet-tasting biscuits.
Chlorophyll cookies
Into 1/2 lb of wheat or barley flour, rub 1oz of fat or oil, and 1 tsp of salt.
When well amalgamated, add powdered grass to make up some 25 % the volume, plus enough liquid (ideally, milk or vegetable cooking water) to make a dough.
Beat the dough for 10 minutes with a rolling pin, then roll small pieces of it as thin as possible.
Pr1ck all over with a fork and bake in a very hot oven for 5 minutes or until brown-edged and crisp.
These store well in an airtight jar, and are excellent eaten with cheese and celery.
For a disguising savoury flavour, mix in to the dough 1 tbl of soy sauce (and adjust the other liquids) or dried vegetable powder, first reconstituted for 10 minutes in a little water.
To hide the green tinge of the biscuits, add to the dough a few drops of brown food colouring.
"Don't mock. When I served these biscuits at a buffet party, I was highly complimented." John Yeoman.
