What's the deal?
Morrisons is selling energy saving lightbulbs for only 39p; the cheapest price I've ever seen them sold for, especially as they tend to cost around five times more elsewhere.
Both Bayonet Cap bulbs (this is one with two prongs sticking out of it) and Edison Screw bulbs are available at either 11w or 18w (the equivalent to 60w and 100w normal bulbs).
How to get them
These are only available in-store at Morrisons, but as stock is limited don't make a special trip just to grab them without first checking your local store has some left.
Why's energy saving so important?
Lighting accounts for approx. 15% of each electricity bill. By replacing standard bulbs with energy saving ones, around five times less electricity is used. According to the Energy Saving Trust each energy saving bulb used can knock up to £9 off your annual bill. On average they also last 12 times longer than standard bulbs meaning you won't need to re-buy as frequently.

cheaper at tesco's,only 19p,i have seen them in express, dont know about superstore, no doubt they have them and could well be cheaper as they usually are compared to express!0

As a tip, we've found the 11w = 60w is very misleading. The quality of light is not good. Go for the 18w ones.0
-
I can confirm this, 19p at tesco, only saw 11W one though.

Morrisons had them in at the Teesside Park store last night...0

The bulbs at Morrison's are the same Philips energy saving lamps that were on a 99p BOGOF offer up to recently at the stores - it's sponsored by E-ON.
Reason for that is that Gordon Brown threatened to windfall tax energy companies a while back if they didn't offer such promotions, along with free cavity wall and loft insulation services to customers.0 -
If you live in the Caradon area of Cornwall you can get a pack of 2 energy saving bayonet light bulbs - FREE!! :j :j
Get along to your local library and pick one up. It's a brilliant scheme whereby you make a pledge to contribute to the environment by promising to recycle, compost, switch off lights or whatever, and in return not only do you get free light bulbs but a tree will be planted in SE Cornwall for every pledge made.
This is a long term offer, not just a quick gimmick.

How does anybody know these things last 12 years? I don't think they've been on sale that long. The first one we used lasted about 18 months at approximately 3 hours daily use. The second has lasted 3 years so far but its light output is now noticeably diminished.
A consolation (of sorts) is that life of filament bulbs these days is much shorter than it used to be.

I have only bought a whole load from John Lewis and they are amazing quality and only 10pence more expensive. They are from Phillips, so good quality, too. And they come in different sizes.0

thaink you can get money back if they fail and I used to keep the receipt incase but now they are so cheap I don't bother. Look on the packet when you buy nexttime.
Also new eu directive says we must all use these type of bulbs soon and the old ones will not be sold so stock up if you prefer the old type.0
