Probably my very last post on here. We have sold the car for a lower price to a guy in the same county who can collect tomorrow. We took the lower price as we are heartily sick and tired of the whole thing.

Its really bugging me though. There must be a reason why someone is bidding on cars and then not buying them.

It usually is. Lot's of egos and a very small internet hah.

I reckon he's bidding and then seeing what his options are. He's winning ones he might like but stringing people along looking for something better.

Basically the internet version of a tyre kicker, i.e. a time waster.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Just one point. The transaction is complete as far as eBay are concerned, so you will both be able to leave feedback. eBay don't know that no money has changed hands.

Glad you have got it sorted, anyway. He was obviously a chancer, and stringing a lot of people along. Not a pleasant experience, but something to learn from.

They know now that no money has changed hands and have said that we can start an unpaid item dispute to gain him a strike and to obtain a refund of fees. My husband doesn't want to bother but I think its the principle of the thing. Certainly if we have to relist it I will do that.

Going for the strike is the only way to protect the next poor sod from this chancer. If the sellers of the other cars he's messed about with had obtained strikes then there is a fair chance he's never have bid on your auction in the first place.

I noticed there was a telephone number on the other Toyota Corolla car ad he bid on so I phoned the number. The lady said that someone of the same user name, but a lady, was the top bidder. All that happened was that they never received payment or any communication whatsoever from the bidder even though they sent lots of messages. They had no telephone number for her/him. She said they went for a second chance offer and the next person down phoned and offered them a very low amount, which they refused. (Which is what has happened to us, except that my husband has accepted it). They have now sold the car for a higher amount than the original auction. I am starting to think this is a scam.

They have an unpaid item dispute going on at the moment but there is no strike because it has not been resolved. Ebay told me if I close it after 4 days we will receive a refund of fees and he/she will receive a strike. If there are many strikes then their account can be investigated/closed. So she is going to talk to her boyfriend about it tonight. She said he should not be on Ebay. I am going to start an unpaid item dispute so he will have at least two strikes.

We are £130 down from the auction price plus my husband has thrown in the workshop manual because he wants to get rid as he has the work van now.

Ah, forgot you had filed it with ebay. What I meant to say was that the auction had completed, and therefore as far as ebay's system was concerned, the sale was done and feedback was available. I had a sale last year which fell through for various reasons, and even though no sale took place, I was still able to leave feedback for the 'buyer' and presumable he/she could have done for me.

    Sorry, my misunderstanding.
