Do you tip?

I see it as quite separate from the tipping issue though.
To my mind giving a friend some money towards petrol is not tipping, they are not employed as a driver for you. When you order something like a taxi you are paying for a service and if they don't charge enough to cover their wages to be honest that is their problem not mine. However where I live the elderly that come to my workplace have often paid £10 to get a round trip of four miles! I'm sorry but you can't say our taxi drivers in our area aren't paid enough.0 -
I'd find a different cab firm and tell them why you are cancelling also. It's a cheek.
I tip cabbies up to the nearest £, perhaps the nearest note if it is not very much but it's a pretty decent living and not the most taxing of jobs so I don't really feel the need to show them my appreciation of their service. I do happily tip restaurant staff and removals men so am not a tight tipper!
Me too, I'm a round up type of tipper too.
I wouldn't feel the need to tip on a £80 fare.0 -
The whole tipping thing is so outdated though.
People should get the appropriate wage for their job & the price the purchaser pays should reflect a true & fair price for the service.
People shouldn't have to rely on the generosity of individuals to earn a decent wage. Wages should be a fair wage for the work!
I do tip, because its socially the norm. But I would rather the types of jobs that attract tips paid the person a fair wage.0 -

When friends do me a driving favour, I both try press upon them the money for their fuel and give a thank you gift. (In a compariason it would be wages and tip....I assume the time they spend with me brings its own benefit, so I wouldn't try and pay them for their time)
As a matter of interest, how many people would decline a Christmas bonus not accounted for in their work contract because they 'earned enough' ?0 -

I agree, but its not just wages, its how we buy things. S many things, from new build houses to high street purchases are priced to allow a discount or cash back or point collection for vouchers or whatever. It's all much of a muchness when it comes to transparency IMO.0 -

Do you mean a bonus from my employer? I would greatfully accept that. If you mean from a customer, we are not allowed to accept.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Discussed this in work today, we all agree broadly with previous posts - but one girl tips her Tesco home delivery guy....does anyone else?!
There was a post on here last year about tipping Tesco delivery staff and someone who worked for Tesco posted that the drivers were not supposed to accept tips. The customer had paid for the service with the delivery charge."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0 -

I tip people who are polite, courteous and not crap.
I generally do a "keep the change" on most taxi drivers though, seeing as my journey costs about 3-4 pound, Not much, but y'know.
I wish it were easier to tip chefs really.0 -
No, I wouldn't tip the cheeky git! I have regular hospital appointments where I get a taxi costing £8 return, even then I make sure that I always have the change. I'm not against tipping for a good service but I don't want this country to end up like America where they expect a tip for doing !!!!!! all! Although I did tip the driver a tenner when he picked me up from the airport at Christmas.0
