Do you tip?

Do you tip taxi drivers? I have to get a taxi next week to go for some hospital treatment and the cost (for me) is a lot of money....£80 return. Because i have used the taxi firm before a few of the drivers know me and the driver that thinks he might be doing the job said to me, i hope you are going to give me a £20 tip for doing this !!! To be honest it made me feel like not giving him a tip at all. What would you do ?

    absolutely not.. they get wages!

Would you tip your dr or the vet or the dentist or the bus driver??? Of course you wouldn't!! What is the difference?? they are providing a service you are paying them for!

As he has mentioned it to you, no I would not. That aside I generally would, maybe £5 max for that length of journey.

I'd use a different taxi firm and then make a decision about a tip based on the service I received.

I would cancel the booking and if they ask why tell them the reason. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a journey with that driver.

I tip if I think I've had good service. The biggest tip I've given was the taxi driver who took me to Nottingham when I was in a wheelchair last year - he was absolutely fantastic and so helpful so I gave him a £5 tip on top of the £35 fare which he was very grateful for - I wouldnt tip if they didnt deserve it!

Certainly not in that instance - what a bloody cheek :eek: and I'd be taking my custom elsewhere.

As for the initial question; yes I do tip: waiters, pizza delivery, hairdressers, busty barmaids and so on..

Discussed this in work today, we all agree broadly with previous posts - but one girl tips her Tesco home delivery guy....does anyone else?!

In that case I most certainly wouldn't - infact I'd change the taxi company with immediate effect telling them word for word the driver's comment!

On a journey that length I'd be inclined to tip say £5 because of the length of journey though, normal taxi journey's I just tell the driver to round up to the nearest pound.

blimey, £20 is 25% of the fare, what a liberty ! I'd give £5 max. If the journey isn't profitable for the cab firm, they shouldn't agree to do it.
