Debt, depression and gambling.

Sorry but that is not entirely true. There are other anti depressants than SSRIs, some are more difficult to withdraw from than others due to different half lives, very few get worse depression coming off than going on and if they do that can signify it's simply too early to withdraw because you have not recovered. If you are on the right drug and the right dose they stop the symptoms for the entire time you take them not just 'for a short time'.
Anti depressants do save lives, they do help people with the motivation to make other changes to their lifestyle, they can blunt the highs and lows from any negative behaviour which is 'self medicating'. They are not the panacea for all ills, but of you read the published research and/ or work in healthcare the good outweighs the bad. Overall bad experiences are not the norm.
That is your opinion, my opinion is based off personal experience, I have been on many differing medications and they all were a nightmare to get off. The biggest risk I have ever been to suicide is when I was coming off the tablets. Just not worth it in my opinion, they are not a fix they are just a mask. Lifestyle changes are far more effective.0 -
Correct me if I'm wrong but being undischarged for 15 years in BR is only when BR is due to gambling? My 30k unsecured is not due to gambling, it is just a result of depression according to my GP?0

My gambling, although a problem, is something I know I can fix in the right circumstances. My main concern is my long term finances. My debt problem is not from gambling whatsoever, I had 30k in unsecured debt before I gambled.
.
Bounce, if gambling isn't the cause of your debt problem, then why are unable to buy food? Pay bills etc this month.
I'm not getting at you, I'm trying to make you see the gambling is an issue. It needs sorting before anything else.
Bounce, you said in your post you have been a gambling addict for years, your words not mine. Your GP has diagnosed you with depression possibly due to the situation you are in.
The OR can and will find out how your racked up the debt, if you gambled with a credit card, he/she will know.
Be honest with us, have you gambled using a credit card? It is an issue for you?
We are here to help, but can only help if you are open to giving us straight and honest answers.0 -

You have not been paying your payplan, you have been gambling your money instead. Do you think BR judges button up at the back?
You need to get a reality check mate.0 -
I have been trying to keep quiet re the bankruptcy but I too don't think this is the answer nor do I think it will be the only time you go bankrupt if things stay the same.
However, you have seen the doctor and been put onto medication but most importantly you are making the first attempts at sorting yourself out by coming on here.
Yes there will be times we say things you don't want to hear and vice versa. Mistakes will be made and lessons learnt but you can do it.
I suspect the payplan thing was too severe but then again what would you spend the extra money on once you have bought the 'things' you want?
Re stuff like the TV, do you have a freecycle group in your area? Maybe you could advertise on there for a TV, the older ones aren't worth anything so people are likely to give them away in full working order.
Apart from gambling is there anything else you enjoy doing?Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -
What I'm saying is, my debt wasn't accrued by gambling (I accrued £30k+ by the time I was 23)...it just wasn't reduced by my gambling.
I see what you're saying though - a judge listening to this will likely be fuming and punish me appropriately.
I need to stop gambling, full stop.0 -

Right, so there we have it, you have racked up some of this debt due to gambling, thats the first step.

You need to address the issue of your shortage of funds, Do you have anything you can sell? Do you have a smart phone?0 -

Wether your debts are accrued by gambling or not, if gambling is implicated in any way then the judge will take the appropriate action. You could have been paying your debts off all of this time but you choose not to and you choose to continue gambling. A judge will only look favourably if you go into a BR after not having gambled for at least 12 months before hand. Anything less and you are likely to get an extended Bankruptcy.0 -
I've got a £30 crappy Samsung. I've sold everything I can! A relative is going to send me some money next week, I'm working a night shift tonight and tommorow so will be able to write off a couple of days sleeping during the day.
I'm going to self exclude from bet365 tonight (the only site I use).0 -
