So how do you deal with this now? It will be good for OP to know they aren't alone or an idiot either.

I have not fully dealt with it yet but I am almost there. The first thing I learnt was that I can't just go in and spen X amount of money, because I would always continue to spend after that point so I have programmed my mind to just avoid the places.

The second part was by learning the hard way, I got sick of having no money for food just after I got paid and my friends and family helped by stopping to lend me money. After months of this I eventually got tired of it and the thought of having no money now overrides the urge to gamble.

I know that sounds simple but it is not it is a gradual training of my own mentality over a period of time that has helped me get to this stage.

Thanks for sharing that Michael, I did wonder if not having enough money for food would give the OP a big nudge.

    What do you think bounce?

OP you will get help with this but you must help yourself as well.

Welcome to the Debt Free Board.

I have dabbled in the past with gambling, came to my senses sooner rather than later though, there is only one winner and its the house, not the person placing the bet.

You can change if you really want too, its not going to be easy but with a little willpower and you can do it (with the help of GA if needed).

Going to be blunt, but I don't believe you wouldn't gamble if you had the stuff you wanted, that's an excuse, gamblers are full of them, you probably gamble cause you can and you enjoy the excitement of it all, even when you are losing.

Do you have anything to sell on Ebay for you to be able to buy yourself food?

I wouldn't normally suggest this, but if you are really really stuck for money in order to buy food, then a very small payday loan £50 to see you through end of month, you must repay it though on the due date.

You are going to need help in terms of your debts, contact payplan again and see what they can do for you.

I wish you every success at not gambling....you can do it.

Payday loans are an etremely BAD idea for gamblers. I know this off experience. If you are going hungry, go to a food bank, you can't gamble food.

its not quite as simple as walking in and asking for a donation, you have to have genuine need, gambling didn't fall into that catagory.

A genuine need for a food bank is not having the ability to feed yourself. Speak with social services if the food banks refuse, social services will refer you and they will give you food.

    My SOA is easy.

    Net income p/c/m: £2200
Rent: £420 (I rent a room at work)
Food: £300 (I have certain dietary requirements that mean I can't eat foods high in fats or iron).
Mobile: £45 (average, depends if premium rate/08 numbers are called)
    Internet: £25
    Line Rental: £14
    Gym: £20
    TV License: £12
PayPlan: £1364 (I haven't paid this amount for over a year, sometimes just £50 a month).

    Outgoings: £836
    Surplus: £1364

This month I've already gambled away all of the surplus, plus the money for food, line rental, tv license and mobile. I'm left with £20 which I'd use for the gym.

I'm considering bankruptcy just so a court can ORDER me to pay my surplus. There is just no way I can voluntarily pay a surplus unless I'm legally told to. Just the way I'm wired!

I've already borrowed £550 from a family member, which I've already gambled away and said I'd pay them back next pay (which I will)

Going Bankrupt when affected by Gambling is not an easy ride. What you need to do is address the gambling first. If your not prepared to self exclude yourself from the bookmakers and other places then you just do not want to give up gambling. If you do not want to give up then we are all wasting our time advising you because you will still flutter away your money regardless.

I would be inclined to give the medication a few weeks to kick in and then see how you feel about bankruptcy tbh.

You might be in a totally different frame of mind.

I think Michael sums it all up nicely.

Where are your debts? have you added to the debt since you started with Payplan.

What do you mean? Wired that way? Are you saying if you had spare money you would gamble it?

Your internet is high, food bill is really high for one person (even with your diet, you need to pop over to the Old style board and the ladies on there will help meal plan for you on a budget). Cancel the gym, you can't afford it at this moment.
