I've seen a couple of lovely dresses on the Phase Eight website too. I've got 6 bridesmaids but I've asked if they can buy their own. I'll buy them jewellery to wear on the day. Not sure what I'm doing regarding shoes though yet.Debt free other than a mortgage but still always wanting to save money :j.

ive just ordered my bridesmaid the long twist n wrap dress from bhs last night - theyre 30% off at min and theres a code for £10 off a £50 on the voucher board so works out a £80 dress cost me £46
(oh and £2+ cashback through topcashback aswell)0 -

Thanks for the tip. I have just ordered 2 of these using the code. £87Married 30/08/14 :heartpuls0 -
I bought my dresses in Coast. If you wait until Debenhams or John Lewis have their 'mega days' on they'll have 20% off.
I don't think you should ask them to pay thats pretty rude. If you do then they should be choosing the dress!0 -
If you live anywhere near an outlet village you will always find bargains! I bought my BM dresses from Coast outlet at Street, Somerset.
Another thought is that they don't all have to be exactly the same (unless you want them to be - obviously). Different shades of the same colour or complimentary colours, or a matching sash or wrap, can be a way of saving money. Different styles will suit different ages and body shapes too - so slightly different dresses will be a way to keep them all happy!
ETA: I bought my BMs their dresses and let them choose shoes and jewellery. I wasn't fussed about everything being matchy, matchy. Good job too.
ETAA: If you want a size 10 emerald green Coast dress let me know!If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0 -

Why is it rude? I paid for my own dress when I was a bridesmaid. I would have bought a new dress and spent something in the region of £100 as it's a special occasion.
I'm still buying my bridesmaid as a present.Debt free other than a mortgage but still always wanting to save money :j.

I sympathise as I'm likely to end up with five bridesmaids (originally only wanted my best mate from college, then OH suggested a uni friend who lives in the city where we're getting married, and then my mum said I had to have my sisters and I feel I can't have my sisters and not ask OH's sister as well!).
What I'm thinking of doing is suggesting they have black dresses, possibly with red sashes/accessories as our colour scheme is black, white and red, that they pick out themselves as they're all different ages and body types and the main thing is I want them to be happy in what they're wearing. They will probably be high street dresses though (look at Debenhams as well as Monsoon, Coast, BHS etc as they often have quite nice formal dresses) just to keep cost down. The other option we're looking at is having them made, either by a friend/relative or a local dressmaker, which could work if you want them to have a specific style."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
Wow thanks everyone. Lots of suggestions! I've been looking at one online for ages that I really liked, so seeing as though it's only £26 i've ordered it to see what it's like. If I don't like it, and the bridesmaids don't like it, it can go back on ebay!
I'm definitely not going to discard the high street like I was doing. I like the idea of black dresses, it's one I had considered, as I have found sashes in the colour that i'd need. Plus at least the bridesmaids stand more of a chance of wearing them afterwards then! I did think about saying "here is x amount of pounds, find a black dress you like that will suit a sash" but does anyone think it would look odd if they were all different materials? Then surely the black would look different on each one?Debt free (if you don't count the mortgage!)0 -
Where is the one you've found for £26? I've seen a couple of dresses I like on the Oasis website, but on the model they look on the tarty side of short and I've a couple of tall bridesmaids.
I don't have one particular best friend. I've lots of close friends, one of my 6 is my cousin who I've always been close to. I'd have upset someone big time if I didn't ask them.
I've seen a couple on Coast, BHS, M&S and Phase Eight that I do like. I've got my girls coming round in a few weeks for drinks, food, decisions being made on colours/styles/budgets.
If you are going for black, how about this http://www.marksandspencer.com/M-S-Woman-Pleated-Flare/dp/B008E34T1G?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_22&nodeId=210709031&sr=1-22&qid=1365419834Debt free other than a mortgage but still always wanting to save money :j.

Thanks Jesscat, that looks fab. The one i've ordered is one i've been looking at on Ebay. I have to get it out of my head otherwise i'll always wonder! The bridesmaids are the same too! At least if it turns up and is horrible i've not lost lots of money! I've got a mixture of all heights of bridesmaids, I was avoiding shorter dresses because it's winter but a few of the girls really like the idea of shorter ones and a big faux fur shrug or something!Debt free (if you don't count the mortgage!)0
