    Morning :hello:

The chickens aren't happy with me, they're on medicated food for a week and aren't allowed anything else. They gathered by the gate at teatime for their corn and starting squawking when no-one appeared with their treat. One escaped and stood staring into the kitchen. I brought her in to clip her wing, she started pecking the scissors as I tried to use them. They went to bed as usual last night, this morning every single one ignored me :D

I've washed the seed trays and pots, I'll fill them with compost today and plant some seeds. We've got some plastic shelving which lives in the shed, I bring it into the kitchen at this time of year. It fits perfectly in front of one side of the french doors and is the perfect place to start seeds off.

    Morning All

Dementia, my Dad had it, I started as his daughter, then his mother   and then that nice lady who comes and holds my hand, and the eventually when he was bed ridden, almost blind, and deaf, the one who fed him Maltesers, he still knew to open his mouth if you brushes one on his lips, and he could demolish them in no time. He was always a chocolate lover, and there was nothing else we could give him to treat him. I have to think about the good times, as it broke my hear to see a clever, articulate, engineer, in nappies, and having no idea of what was happening to him. You lose them twice, once when they lose it, and then when they die. I cannot tell you his death day (without looking it up), but I know the date he went into Dementia, our 30th WA, and this year will be our 40th. I could not really grieve when he died as I had already lost him. Even in his 80's he was articulate, driving, watching Parliament, we used to discuss the budget, and the world events, he went into real Dementia suddenly, with a stroke in his brain we were told, 6 months after losing Mum. How I miss that kind, loving guy, and how sad none of the Grandparents are here to see how well DS is doing in his career, he has inherited my Dad's business acumen, as I did, and his strong work ethic, nor any of them to see him married next year.:mad: they would all have been so proud of him. :D
Sorry for the length, but needed to say it today.

On the subject of weddings, and leading naturally to diet, I find a Low Carb diet easy to follow, but have to admit more costly than normal food, I can have the dairy stuff I love, and the meat and fish, just have to watch the veggies are not carby. I am being torn 3 ways, the LC option I usually do, the 5:2' or Slimming World, WW has never worked for me. I need to decide and get started. What does the 5:2 book give you, low cal recipes, as having to watch my weight all my life, I am pretty knowledgeable about calories of foods (just ignore them):o:p, or does it offer anything else? Not sure about the new SW, on the old one I preferred the Red days, which is usually like my Low carb option.

My iPad is going away today for a screen repair, I think I am going to feel like my right arm has been cut off :rotfl::rotfl:

Need to get some fish out to thaw to make a fish pie for tomorrow, when my friend is coming to see us. She loves fish.

Take care everyone, LW, Molly, PP (lovely to see you poking your head in)hope your pains are easier. DG

    Morning all!
Dementia is indeed a horrible illness, my FIL has advanced dementia, great aunt has it, two grandparents had it, and I run an assessment ward for older people with organic brain disease, so mostly dementia sufferers. I have mostly worked in this field since I qualified as a nurse in the 80's, and I love it, although it is generally very stressful, at least we always have back up and walk out the door at the end of a shift unlike the carers at home!
The snow was falling sideways in the wind until a minute ago, but is off for now and hasn't stuck thank goodness! Off to collect the car at 1.30, mum is coming with me, not sure where the sudden interest has come from as she doesn't drive, I suspect she will be looking at car prices ready for my brother's return!
Right, better get a move on and get the washing out the machine, have a good day all!
    RIP Iain

    Morning all,

My darling dad had dementia with Lewy bodies, unfortunatly he has had to go in a home, as he was just too much to cope with, he is chair / bed bound and can hardly talk, although he does come out with a word every now and then, he has to be fed, and as Donny said he will still open his mouth. The very sad thing is that he mostly still knows who we are and to walk away and leave him there breaks our hearts :o it is a cruel disease, I lost my dad years ago, but he is alive and in a nursing home.

The usual tidy round for me today, I have dd at home, they have a review day at college, and her head of year has authorised a study day for dd, because she has handed all her work in already so nothing to review :T so an extra day off for her.

Not sure whats for dinner, will go and check my list.

    Have good days all

    Julie :T lovely news xx

I think most animals are a lot smarter than humans like to give them credit for.:o

Talking of dementia - my grandmother had it; she passed away in 1983, some years before I finally split from the family, but she'd not been "with us" iyswim for quite a while. She used to live in various periods in the past, and she used to get so very cross and upset when people didn't know where/when she thought she was, and didn't respond to her exactly as she expected.:( I sure hope I pop my clogs before I get to that state.:(

Judi good luck with coming off the anti-d's - do take care, won't you?:o
I've been on them for over 40 years now, so I don't think there's a hope in hell of me coming off them ever. Tbh, I don't care - it's just a couple more tablets among all the others I have to take; and I suffer badly with stress and anxiety with them, so goodness knows what I'd be like if I tried to ditch them.

Mary's been outside for a comfort break, and had her lunch; she's a three square meals a day girl.:D Goodness knows where she puts it all, as there's not an ounce of spare flesh on her.:o

I've had to cancel my optician appointment for tomorrow (or more accurately, Mr LW has cancelled it, as I don't do phones) because there's something up with the car, so he's taking it to be looked at when he finishes his early shift tomorrow, instead. I'm not fussed, it's only my annual check-up, and I can re-schedule it at a later date.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • Hi Guys!

Late one from me as not had a great day so far, but on the up now.

My PA lady was here today and did loads of stuff and helped me have a shower, hair and nails and also put a spagetti sauce in the SC home made and 6 butterfly cakes and 6 gluten free ones. Will get OH to take a picture. She also parcelled up more sales for me and took them to the PO. I'm so appreciative of her help as OH has been up since 4 working to be finished for when she finished at lunchtime. She even emptied the WM and DW etc. She's a good one. She's here again in the morning and is doing OH some gluten free scotch eggs, biscuits and shortbread? Will get pics if I can.

OH is experimenting with trying to cook authentic Jamaican chicken curry today using a massive bag of value chicken pieces, all the proper ethnic spices etc and then doing some rice and peas with coconut milk which we've done before. He's marinading atm and it smells lovely, but very spicy. If it works out well, it'll be another very cheap nutritious meal that can be frozen in bulk if needed.

OH is in the garden atm laying a special lining down and has bought a bulk load of bark chip things to make the garden low maintenance. He still has the big veg patch at the front and all the trees, but at least there will be a lot less mowing.

Anyway, hope all is ok with everyone.

    PP

  • Still cold here and snow just won't shift from the ground, with the added danger of ice.
Spent way to much on shopping today, but did get another couple of legs of lamb (so that will be 3 - 4 meals from each one) and 2 joints of beef that have been cut into five joints, I was going to get some more turkey crowns in Aldi, but they have sold out, they didn't have any milk either, so we ended up getting it in Asda. We got the meat now because the prices will soar back up after Easter. I don't have to go shopping now until next Thursday.

My Mum had dementia but she still recognised us until she died 9 years ago it really is the cruellest disease ever.

Aaargh is that the time I must get the kettle on before DH goes back to work so I will say ta-ta for now x

Timetoface the music I did the fasting diet for two weeks and lost 10lb. I have stopped at the moment because it's too cold, but intend to start again when it gets warmer. It works!
