Op-I know what it's like to have a little sister who flies off the handle & loves to start arguments, and is totally illogical. She winds up my DH too. Thankfully I don't live with her :)

What frustrates me is my parents never see it. Yet my friends & husband all have!

I'd try to get home ASAP!

She drives me crackers! She has a habit of saying something really ignorant and then hiding behind "it's just my opinion and opinions can never be wrong". Yeah well if it were my opinion that the sky is polka dot orange would that make me right? *head meets desk*

My mum is cut from the same cloth but my dad just gave her a little lecture on compassion for others.

I would love to go home but there are a few things we need to work out before I do. I miss my boyfriend very very much.

So you say something, she doesn't agree, you tell her -directly or not-that she is ignorant, she says that she is expressing her opinion, and you respond by banging your head...and you are surprised that she loses her temper...

mmm, not sure about the tolerance there...

It's not often that a probable WUM gives us a detailed insight into their wind-up techniques.

Yet, on this thread the opening post gives a detailed account of clearly manipulative behaviour - by the OP.

Button after button was pressed - and the OP's sister needs to educate herself on how to deal with this kind of manipulation, rather than falling for it, and falling into the trap of reacting inappropriately.

Just because someone doesn't raise their voice, it doesn't mean that they have not controlled, directed, and manipulated the situation and/or the other person.

Please tell me more about how I should be tolerant of a bigot. Opinions CAN be wrong. They can also be hurtful and harmful. If someone expresses racist or homophobic views towards you do you let it go because it's just an opinion?

Wait, what?! My sister expressed a view which was offensive and hurtful towards those with disabilities. And because I stayed calm and argued my case whereas she reacted aggressively and went for my emotional jugular, I'm in the wrong? What a very skewed view. It's not as if I got on her case because she didn't like the jambalaya I'd cooked, she said people with disabilities should not go to the cinema if they couldn't control themselves!

I just think if you have an offensive opinion you should be better equipped to defend it with "well it's just an opinion!".

I don't consider her opinion offensive, to be honest. Yes, children laugh and make noise at the cinema, but this child was clearly disturbing other people. We don't know if the child in question was being very loud at inappropriate times. I think Cineworld handled the situation badly, but we only have one side of the story, don't we?
