lack of detailed billing - you never know what you paid for.
If you have a goodybag you always know what you have used, just log in and it tells you exactly how many text, minutes and data you have left.
Technical issues are no more than any other network.
OP, all my children and OH are on giffgaff, they've had very few problems and save me a fortune. We run a variety of iphones, Blackberries, basic phones and other smartphones.
The only gripe my OH had with them recently was that it says you can't tether with an iphone on their website but it doesn't you can't tether with a Blackberry, they have him a immediate refund though, it's just a shame they still haven't put it on their website.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I bought my Orange phone from a third party. I don't know if it is unlocked! I don't do 150 min and the rest but I text (not talk, just text) my hubby who is working abroad and that alone eats up my Orange top up.
Rather than text, use instant messages eg Whatsapp. These are essentially free.
You would need a cheap smartphone to do instant messages. But smartphones start at £25, but £50 gets you a better one. Then you can just use the Ovivo free minutes, texts and data each month.0 -

Yes, you can tether with iPhone.
The only problem is the iPhone is spying on use, well sort of. It uses different APN for tethering, which is blocked if tethering is not enabled on your account
Just jailbreak your iPhone and then install small app called TetherMe from Cydia. It will just use normal APN for tethering as well. Just like Blackberry do.
Talking about giffgaff - using goodybags is just like being on pay monthly one month rolling sim-only contract. Just more expensive and more annoying ;-) I moved my family from Asda mobile to giffgaff and now to one month rolling contracts. It cost me about same money or less, but with less hassle. And also having 3 or 4 sim cards on my account I can negotiate better offer if I need better phone or monthly payment at discounted rate.0 -
Gifgaff runs on O2. Brilliant.

I don't have an iphone, OH has a Blackberry. My gripe was that on their website they say you cannot tether with an iphone (whether you can or not is neither here nor there) but don't say anything about not being able to tether with a Blackberry, which you can't on any network with a PAYG BB.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

I presume you have an goody bag with unlimited data?
Their website is actually clear about no tethering, the bit about iPhone hotspot is a separate issue, and more to do with no hotspot feature available on the iPhone than about tethering.
From their websiteCan I tether using the new £10 goodybag with 1GB?
Yes you can, once the 1GB allowance runs out you need to have credit to carry on, you will then be charged 2p a MB for the remainder of the goodybag.
Can I tether using the unlimited internet goodybags?
In a nutshell, no. These goodybags are solely for mobile use and tethering is not permitted.
Can I tether in any other way?
Yes, you can also tether with just airtime credit, which costs 20P for the first 20MB and 20p a MB after for the remainder of the day. You cannot, however, top up credit on top of a goodybag and use that credit for tethering. You need to have no goodybags or gigabags active on your account for this to work. The other way you can tether is to purchase a Gigabag. Gigabags cannot be purchased on top of a live goodybag. You can always purchase a Gigabag and use credit for calls/texts. Once the Gigabag allowance runs out, you will be charged 2p a MB for the remainder of the gigabag, which you will need to pay for with credit.
Why is there no Personal Hotspot feature on an iPhone? This is because giffgaff are not recognised by Apple as a supported carrier for their phones, hence they will not support this feature on the giffgaff network. To get around this, you would need to jailbreak your iPhone.====0 -
You're still missing my point, we had the correct goodybag, I don't have an I phone and know nothing about an iphone, the misleading part of the website is the following:Tethering is permitted on £10 goodybag and will work on all smartphones with an inbuilt tethering feature, except for the iPhone.
You cannot tether with a PAYG BlackBerry, so they should say you can tether with all smartphones except iphone and BlackBerry. But they don't say it anywhere.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

They do, they say it right there>
all smartphones with an inbuilt tethering feature
Blackberrys are not smartphones, and blackberrys do not have an inbuilt tethering feature. They clearly say it will only work on smartphones with an INBUILT tethering feature. There are some smartphones that just do not support tethering.
The message is crystal clear. So you're making a fuss over nothing.0 -
Blackberrys are not smartphones?!0

You'd better tell BlackBerry that then

And yes, BB's do have built-in mobile hotspot (aka tethering), my BB on o2 contract happily tethers with OH's Samsung tab.
Oh, and I'm not 'making a fuss over nothing' Giffgaff customer services were excellent and gave us an immediate refund, it just would have been much simpler it they'd made it clear in the first place, that's all, no fuss, just stating a fact that isn't very well publicised and one that Giffgaff agreed should be clearer.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
