I guess an obese person will cost you, as a fit taxpayer, more through access to health services. A fit person will cost an obese taxpayer more via the state pension.

Let's face it. Some people seem to need to identify a group to attack and belittle in an effort to cover up their own inadequacies. 40 years ago it may have been black people, 20 years ago homosexuals. It all comes from the same dark place.

I hate to disagree, but fat is a lifestyle choice.

    Ethnicity, sexuality etc are not.

Tall people often have to pay for "extra legroom" seats, so on that basis why not have "extra width" seats which fat people can pay for?

    Like business class?

Or they can buy 2 seats like they do in the US. I think BA also do it here sometimes, they make the person buy 2 seats.

Well given that 60% of adults in the UK are overweight which means if you base it on BMI the majority commenting here will need to pay extra, so even if you think you are a healthy wieght most of you will be wrong. I'm can't think why any airline will want to introduce it firstly it will be ridiculously expensive to implement and will probably involve needing people to arrive at the airport 4 hours before and flights closing up to 90-2hrs before departure so they can calculate exactly how much fuel they require. secondly they will be alienating 60% of their customers. Thirdly the reason they restrict luggage allowances is to allow more room for freight which offsets the price of your tickets.
Also if I as an obese woman can manage to pack a bag for a one month holiday weighing only 15kgs and my clothes are bigger and heavier than those of slimer people I really can't understand how you can't pack for a one or two week holiday with a 20-23kg allowance as you will be able to pack more clothes just on weight alone than me.
Also don't forget at the end of your holiday you are likely to have gained a bit of weight and bought some sovenirs so expect to be slugged with expensive overweight charges as a nice end to your holiday.

It's never going to happen and people need to stop even raising it as a possibility. Also don't think it's going to cure obesity it's like anorexia it's a mental health disorder and telling people to diet and exercise will never actually cure them just like telling an anorexia person to eat something is not going to cure them.

This thread is very amusing, and that is about it. When I first saw it I thought it was a trolling attempt and 4 pages in I see nothing to change my mind.

Some people have a lot of time (and bigotry) on their hands?

    imho

My son has damage to his brain which means his metabolism/appetite control etc is damaged, this means that when he eats, the chemical that should be released is not, so it is pretty much all stored as fat, so no matter how careful he is with what he eats, it doesn't make a downwards difference to his weight.

He once underwent a 6 month intensive weight loss programme with high impact, calorie burning exercise coupled with a low fat diet....he lost 2lbs in the entire time and there was no discernable change in his physique.

But he is no lazy fatty, he exercises all the time, is a drummer which is a very high energy activity (a rock and metal drummer rather than an easy listening jazz one) and can outrun every other student in his year whilst playing rugby (they all want him on their team, not only for his outrunning ability but also because he is like an unmoving block of concrete in a tackle, no begger can take him down). He never stops moving on the rugby pitch and is classed as one of the best, most energetic and enthusiastic students in his year by the head of PE.

Eldest son is like a rake and officially underweight however, despite eating more than the rest of us put together and doing less activity than middle son!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
  • Only a small percentage of overweight people are that way through medical conditions, though.

For the vast majority in this country the lardiness is due to crappy processed food, large portions of it and lack of physical activity.

Fat people on the Tube radiate heat in the summer, making journeys even more horrible. I'm sure they should be charged more.
