I apologise if this has already been answered, but how would the airline determine who is fat? What weight would be acceptable to pay standard fees and at what point would you be deemed overweight enough to incur more fees?

Perhaps you could have different sized seats in the check in section and pay a certain fee according to which seat you can reasonably fit into without spillage :rotfl:

This whole thread is just a means of having a dig at the overweight. There is no real prospect of charging passengers by weight. As has already been pointed out the tall would have to pay more for even normal seats. Crucially, as men generally weigh more than their female counterparts then there would be indirect discrimination against men (think of the recent rulings re the cost of motor and life insurance).

I also recall it being pointed out that Frank Bruno, at his fittest, would have been classed as clinically obese by his BMI. Muscle weighs more than fat.

The tall already do pay more - a lot of airlines offer "extra legroom" seats for a higher price.

It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Rubbish, being obese is (in nearly all cases) a lifestyle choice. It is also an extra cost to airlines.

Lifestyle choice? Utter drivel. I can't imagine that more than a small minority of very overweight people actually want to be so - if they did then Weight Watchers would be long out of business instead of being so successful - likewise for the plethora of other diet pushing organisations. Nowadays writing a diet book is almost a guaranteed way to make money, such is the demand for these.

Wrong, said peopel took in more energy than they where using, this is a lifestyle choice in either over eating, unhealthy eating or lack of exercise, or of course any mix of those.

All these things are choices made by the person and all can be changed by the person, hence its a lifestyle choice. No they probably didn't set put to get fat, but there choices have made them so.

Sweeping generalisation - many people become overweight irrespective of how much exercise they do and, similarly, many others do little or no exercise and stay slim as sticks. Explain that! What we are is written in our genes - genes determine everything about us, from body shape to personality to intelligence to your chances of getting cancer. There is now this trendy, politically correct view that we affected by outside factors but this is simply not true. My wife's grandmother was a chain smoker and died at 92, while many who have never smoked get cancer at 50 and die.

Righto, if fat people ate less and did more exercise they wouldn't be fat - without exception.

If they ate less energy than they consumed, they would lose weight. FACT.

Apart from a very few cases such as chemo etc.

It is as simple as that. The excuses all start happening when it is questioned why they eat more than they use.
