Should fatties pay more to fly?

Why would thin people want to pay to get away from fat people? They won't eat you.
Let' face it, this has just degenerated into tribal BS like all those bull vs bear threads.
If you were a skinny wee thing, on a long haul flight to, say, Argentina or Australia, would you want to sit next to someone who not only needed all the space in their seat but was squishing into your space?
Or what if you were in the window seat, needed to get out of the seat, and the guy next to you refused to move and told you to "climb over"? I felt for the girl on that occasion; the cabin crew were useless.0 -
This thread seems to be all about thin people moaning about their fellow passengers spilling into their seat as they fly to their holiday destination. Now this kind of thing has happened to myself and my partner, but we just huddle up a bit in our two seats and let the larger person have the extra room.
Obviously, this only works when you have a partner to sit with. I guess from the nature of some of the posts on this thread, some of you have challenging personality problems and so would not have anyone to travel with.
Bitter people tend to have difficulty forming relationships, which makes them lonely and more bitter. A vicious circle.
It's a difficult one to answer. Perhaps you should try getting out a bit and making a real effort to be nice to people. Try joining a club where you could meet people with similar interests. Who knows, in time maybe you will find someone who you can share your life with and make your journeys more acceptable.
Hope this helps. Good luck.0 -

I am a skinny wee thing and I live in Australia so fly long haul more often than most.
I've had plenty of thin people behave like boors on planes. If you value your personal space this much, go business. The choice is open to you.0 -

Yes you are right - my advice was aimed solely at the holidaymaker. I should have taken account of the business traveller having problems with neighbouring passengers spilling into their seat. This was most remiss of me and I should really put things right.
My advice to any business traveller booked into cattle class by their employer is quite simple - get a better job!
You could try improving your CV by taking evening classes or even a part time degree. Improved education will obviously help, but don't forget the softer skills. You may have a number of pet names for the larger person, but you have to remember that some people may find these insulting. For instance, greeting your boss with "Morning, fatty" is not going to get your career moving in the right direction.
If you need any advice on what the self employed businessman should do if he finds himself running a failing business that can only afford basic travel arrangements, please let me know.
Glad I could be of assistance.0 -
Having just returned from a pleasant 3 weeks in warmer climes, I didn't see too many problems with larger passengers on my flights, despite using budget airlines and being crammed in like sardines. I did have a problem with a chap sitting behind me who was approaching 7ft tall but had chosen not to pay the extra for a seat with extra leg-room - then had the audacity to complain about me reclining my seat.
I do think that airlines should introduce a variety of seat sizes of varying comfort and price them accordingly. Everyone - thin/fat tall/short could choose to pay for the degree of comfort that they want - and accept that if they choose the cheapest seats then their journey may be less than pleasant."When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty." - Thomas Jefferson0 -
