    Hi

So grateful for your help, thanks. Oh, maybe 24" - haven't even had a look yet to be honest. Current one is something like that. Or if I don't have enough money, as I'm moving I may go for a smaller one which I can move to the bedroom later.

Meaning a smaller one just to get me by for a few months, then a larger one.

From the Pana range, the smaller ones only have one SCART, so looks like you'll have to look larger than 24"

    Hi

I have now moved and have enquired in a couple of places so am a bit more clued up. I was told by one technical guy in a large dept store that I can get a converter cable for about £40-50.

I am looking at the Panasonic Viera 32" and a sound bar. Then will play music only through the old system.

The guy from dept store was meant to email me details of the converter cable but hasn't. I'm not too hopeful that I can do it any other way than old system for my music, new system for TV films with sound through the Viera. Does that sound about right?

    Thanks again.

ps it is now essential that I get a new TV anyway, as there is no analogue in the area I've moved to - there must have been remnants of it in the old area as the TV won't tune in here at all.

ps the DVD/home cinema is powered by the subwoofer - ie there is a cable into that and the sub is plugged into the mains.

The DVD player/home cinema then has a scart to the TV.

I think I understand - if I have two Scart sockets into the new TV this will be possible. Even if not, I will still be able to play music from the DVD and then the new TV can produce sound for TV and DVDs.

Is this correct? Sorry to be a bit slow - technical stuff is interesting but I don't have confidence in myself to deal with it!:D

Would it not be better than a sound bar and "converter cable " just to put it towards a new home cinema system with a HDMI socket?

    What's your total budget?

Possibly. But to get something as good as the old sound system I think would be too expensive. My budget at the mo is ideally below £500 for the lot, so would only really cover TV and sound bar and converter (if one is available, though the guy hasn't got back to me on that).

I could later on add a better home cinema to the TV. The home cinema I have is probably the equivalent of £1000 worth today - at a guess. Or more?

ps the converter and sound bar don't cost a lot. £150-200 max between them. I don't even know where to get the converter or whether it really is a solution.

I might be missing something here but surely if the OP is upgrading to a brand new flat screen tv this will negate the need for the digibox to be plugged in as it should have an inbuilt digtal tuner... in so a TV with a single SCART would suffice?
