Hi
I am moving in a couple of months and have decided it's time to get rid of my huge old TV and get a cheap flatscreen in the short term. The thing I really like about my TV is the sound system:

As you can see from the reviews, not easy to set up! I'm wondering whether it will be possible to keep the DVD/home theater system and use it with a flat screen?
The TV I have is 8+ years old and very cumbersome. I think it's time for something more neat and modern instead of carting that with me when it takes two men to lift it.
Many thanks for any advice.

What connections does the sound system have?
EDIT - Found the manual online.
How have you got it connected to the TV at the moment?
What other equipment do you use with them? Digibox? DVD recorder? PVR? How have you got them connected, if at all?0 -

I have digibox. the Panasonic is a DVD recorder. Yes connected at the moment. What is PVR lol. Sorry that's why I'm on here, haven't got a clue with technology.:D Thanks. Yes they are all connected, as well as a video recorder which I never use.0 -
The operative word was not HAVE you got them connected, but HOW they are connected. SCART? Component cables?
Do you have the Audio out from the TV connected to the TV In on the HT830, such that you get TV sound through it?
If you don't know offhand, you need to get a torch and have a look at the back of the TV, HT830 and digibox and advise which sockets are connected to which - we can't provide really useful advice without this
Do you want to use the VHS at all?
If you don't know how they're connected, then who connected them up in the first place?0 -
I think they are connected with SCART. Looks like that to me.
I don't want to use the VHS.
My neighbour connected them but he's moved away and i'm not in touch with him.0 -
OK, so the only connection between the HT830 and your TV is one SCART cable? How is the digibox connected, and what is it connected to?
From the look of the instructions, the SCART is for playing back DVD or other sources from the HT830 TO the TV. Do you get your TV sound (from regular broadcasts) through the HT830?
Need more detail .....0 -
Yes, they are all connected to the TV. Via SCART.0
-
Thanks. For regular broadcasts I get sound through the TV. For DVDs through the DVD. I hope this helps.0

OK, so you have two SCARTs going into the back of the TV, and either you select the AV input between DVD and Digibox, or the TV does this for you when one or other is switched on ... yes?
If that is the case, all you need is a TV with internal sound and two SCARTs, same as the current one. Many of the current Panasonic flat screens fit the bill in this respect, I got one recently.
If you're in doubt about any, look them up on the Panasonic website, specifications are all there, as well as operating manuals0 -
Yes, the TV selects it. Thanks for your help. so best to go for a Panasonic or essential? Thanks0
-
It's not essential to go for a Panasonic, I merely know for a fact that some of their flat screens fit exactly your requirements.
Whatever you buy MUST have two SCART inputs and its own built-in speakers, if you want to replicate your current setup.
What screen size do you want or need?0
