Overspent this month it looks like, only by £10 or so but its so demoralising when the meals I do are really cheap, from scratch with fruit and veg and yet can't seem to stay within £220 (2 adults, 5 year old and 1 year old). Tesco prices have gone up so much that now I'm going to have to travel the 12 mile round trip to Lidl and Aldi just because it will be cheaper in the long run. Argh - thought I was doing well but came unstuck a bit today. Cleaned my spice rack and cupboard out yesterday and got rid of a lot of spices that had lost their 'kick' so thought I ought to restock a little so I can cook more curries from scratch which is something I used to do a lot years ago but hardly ever now. Luckily we have a good oriental supermarket in town so went there and spent £7 on spices, fresh ginger and garlic. Also had to nip to Sains* for milk, veg and a few essentials - another £10, then £2.99 for loo roll.
Was feeling a bit disappointed for going over but have realised how much I must have spent previously when not trying - much more than I thought I'm sure. End of month is Monday for me and won't even get a chance to spend any more so that should be me done for April (hopefully!) - Almost £35 over :-(0 -
Bless you Mra C, I thought yes I will, I deserve it, fancied Pizza so went on line, had a freaky fit when I saw the prices 10.00 and remembered a YS pizza in freezer, 50p instead of 4.00 from Asda, 10 minutes in Halogen and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I know what you mean about the costs of pizza - ludicrous for a bit of bread dough and scant topping. I always remember the line of glorious Blanche from Coronation Streeet, "Pizza?! It's just a fancy chesse and tomato toastie!"Save £12k in 2022 thread #7:

Almost up to my target now. I'm a bit dissappointed. I have most the food for the rest of the month but I was hoping for a bit of left over cash. I'm hoping May will be better.0

Received a 20% off voucher for our online butcher yesterday, as long as order is placed before end of the month! Have to take advantage of it as meat is one of our most expensive food categories!
I did a stock check of our freezer and made an order out to be delivered in May so I am going to include that in next month's budget, just need to keep shopping under £50 til end of month…Grocery Challenge 2019 YTD-£820.46/£7200(11%)

Been all over the place this week, tesco, aldi, coop ffoods and Iceland and managed to spend £50.24 which takes me slightly over budget - that will teach me to try and cut it !
Still to get bread/milk and possibly some fruit for lunches this week so will be nearer original budget
Think next months a 5 week month for us so will have to be reaaaalllly strict !

Finally remembered to update my sig. Must try to cut back a bit for May as the freezer is full and I really need to defrost it. Better start reading the May thread too now"Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0

Morning All
Lovely and sunny here, not quite as warm as yesterday.
Did my final weekly shop at Mr T yesterday, plus some stock for Guinea pigs from local pet shop. £52.26 at Mr T (missed that £5 off £40 voucher I've had over past few weeks). £8.98 at pet shop. Will update signature.
Unless there's a run on the milk or bread, hoping that's my last spend for April as last day of my challenge month on Wednesday. I suspect a loaf of bread may be added before then, so won't declare yet. Looks like under budget though, fingers crossed.
Treated myself to 24 cans of coca cola at Mr T for £5. Bit of a vice of mine and try not to buy it too often, but at that price, thought I'd get it and pace myself (ha ha). Or drink it without restraint, at least the sugar and caffeine will fuel getting some stuff done around the house :rotfl:.
Hope everyone has good Sunday, I've loads to do, have that don't know where to start feeling.
Guineapigsqueaks x
Keep Smiling0
