Because pretty much any western government, or China or Russia could sink it right this second by building their own super computer cluster. BANG. Done. Bitcoin sunk.
I think you're missing the point entirely, that's exactly what exists now and provides the fuel that's driving the btc phenomenon forward at an accelerated pace.
These countries already have their own monopoly money and "super computer cluster(f*ck)s" and people are becoming increasingly sick and tired of the privileged access banking system used to administer and profit from it.
What btc offers which no sovereign entity can ever capture is global equity in a system run by everyone who uses it for the benefit of all who use it.'We don't need to be smarter than the rest; we need to be more disciplined than the rest.' - WB0 -
Today's Max Keiser show is all Bitcoin and as well as being informative as usual, is also very funny...

If you look at the recent traffic for "Bitcoin" on wikipedia and the traffic on the Reddit Bitcoin sub forum, there was a significant spike around the 19th November (Senate hearings)

I believe this will translate into a large sum of money being 'invested' into Bitcoin over the next few weeks. This money is currently in transit to the exchanges, but once this bull run finishes who knows....

The point is the US would stand to benefit more from embracing Bitcoin than it would from destroying it, which is true for any party with the resources to achieve it.
What benefits do the US get from losing it's status as world reserve currency?0 -
Practical question:
I've bought from bitbargains and localbitcoins but the differential (at a constant percentage of the market price) is getting punishing.
Plus it's time to diversify. I'm in for LTC but want to go broader. WHo knows which of these will finally survive? (Although BTC is out front obviously).
SO: I've joined btc-e and submitted relevant docs. Has anyone here used it? Dryhat? How *exactly* did you fund your account? SEPA to EUROS? Is it possible to use other transfer sites like azimo?
Thanks all. How long before MSE starts a subforum in altcoins, dya think?0 -

I've obviously heard of BTCe but have never used them so can't help there sorry.
On the latest Max Keiser show I linked to above, Max announced what he called a "world exclusive" and recommended litecoin as the next big cryptocurrency to take off.
While some may scoff at this, some may remember that Max did exactly the same for Bitcoin 2 years ago and anyone following his lead with just a couple of grand would be now be very, very rich.0 -

I think you should be very wary of the alt coins, I hold none, not even LTC and have no belief in them.
Many are used for pump and dump schemes, many are jumped on by late comers to digital currencies in the hope they will turn into another Bitcoin.
re: BTC-E... never, ever, ever, ever believe the Troll Box (chat box)... its just for fun!0 -
