Surely you can tell the difference between a monkey and a chimpanzee?

Is it that one of them can mine for bitcoins, and the other just gets sucked into the bubble ?

Hope you're no longer disappointed that you didn't get in at the bottom of the last dip at $820-something!
  • I like having my money an account that is covered by my bank if a fraudster empties it. With bitcoin it would be gone forever!!
  • A new low. I expect better from you Viva. Surely you can tell the difference between a monkey and a chimpanzee?

I once had an infinite number of chimpanzees, and all they did was drink an infinite amount of PG Tips.

I have got rid of them and now have an infinite number of monkeys. I have given them an infinite number of NVidea GeForce video cards, and they will mine an infinite number of Bitcoins.....

I'm going to be rich, rich, rich....

I think you have an unrealistic faith in your bank account.

The umbrella they provide is only for use on sunny days. If it rains the umbrella is no longer available to you.

The "umbrella" UK banks provide is a guarantee to return my money in the event of fraud or theft.

Even if its raining I still get my balance protected.
  • Isn't one of the prerequisites for something being defined as "money" that it's value stays reasonably constant, at least within a country?
The Chinese appear to have made the point rather neatly that Bitcoins aren't.

Do they remain stable against the good and services you can purchase wish them? To be honest, I always thought the currency trading markets were notoriously unstable.

What can you buy with them apart from drugs?

There are some circumstances where your money is protected, there are others where it isn't.

There are plenty of cases where money has been taken from accounts and the bank hasn't refunded it. They get to choose whether the fraud meets there definition and if it doesn't, no refund. Equally if your account activity looks fraudulent to them your account gets frozen.

Also think back to what happens in a banking crisis, the banks lock the doors and freeze every account. All you get to do is sit back and see what happens, maybe you get to keep your money maybe you don't.

Look around the world to see what happens when the government has a crisis. Not unknown for banks to freeze accounts and governments to come up with wizard wheezes like 'taxing' every account and just taking it from the frozen accounts.

Wherever you put your money there is an element of risk.
