Sorry but I drive defensively too, and it doesn't entail becoming exactly the person I'm trying to avoid - speeding drivers.
One student I know passed his test somehow and liked nothing more than to play 'chicken' on the motorway, as he was driving in the fast lane he would look at the passenger til they 'cracked', he wrote one car off doing that, then another changing a CD, and another when he let a mate who couldn't drive, drive his car around a car park!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. I will agree that the current system is a tad unfair in some respects. I won't go onto this on this thread but will start a new one for proposed penalties for speeding.

In response to a reference to minimum speed:hamletcigars wrote: »really??never heard that before
The roadsign for a minimum speed is a circular sign with a blue background (no red border) and the mph figure in white. The end of the minimum speed is signified by the same sign with a diagonal red line across it.
Here's a web address from which to continue your discovery of signs:

I was making a point about your posts on this thread.
You may or may not in the real world be up your own @ss, however this is how you have come across in this thread.
By repeating your mantra that "I have never broken a speed limit" and "I am fed up with people who speed whingeing" you have come across that way.
I have read your other post on speeding and punishment, and i actually think you speak a lot of sense, and maybe our views are not that far apart.
Just not on this post, that's all. It's not a light at the end of the tunnel, it's a man with a torch and more jobs

Do we really need this thread again???
Every time I come on here, there is some kind of thread along the lines of:
"Speeding motorists have a lack of respect for authority and the lives of other on the road, and are in the the grip of irrepressible narcissism"
or
"I got caught doing 30.000007mph in a 30 zone and now I've got to do hard labour for 50 years and pay off the UK national debt on a £2 per week instalment scheme" threads.
I think it's fair to say that the depths of this subject have been well and truly trawled. They always end up the same P8ssing way - everyone argues and thinks the same thing they did before the thread was started, but have a few more internet vendettas than before....Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Now before i justify why I would speed to overtake in unsafe situations please highlight where i've said i would? i have said that i'll drop down a gear and speed past the car i'm overtaking. This is purely to ensure the time take to overtake is minimal, keeping me on the wrong side of the road for the shortest time possible.
the only time i have had to do anything stupid whilst over taking was in a situation like i asked you about. The car in front of me began to overtake a lorry but didnt even bother to approach the speed limit. I'd pulled out behind the car as there was plenty of time for us both to overtake safetly IF the idiot in the car in front of me realised they didn't own the road.
The car was probably going 1mph faster than the lorry it was overtaking and by this time traffic had appeared in the opposite direction and the chances of us both overtaking the lorry were looking pretty bad for me. All i could do to make sure nobody (apart from possibly myself) was to overtake him whilst he overtook the lorry. Yes it sounds stupid and irresponsible but when you're in the situation yourself you only have a split second to decide how you're going to see your family again. My rear view mirror told me that i made the right choice as the car i over took just continued to tootle along and pulled in directly in front of the lorry. If i'd stayed behind him and hoped for the best i'd have been at the mercy of the other cars around realising what was happening and slowing down. Like i said it was a split second decision so slowing down and hoping the car now behind the lorry would realise what was happening was as risky as overtaking a car that was alredy overtaking.
When i started to over take the lorry there was plenty of time, it was the selfish and blind actions of the car in front of me that caused any problem. When you're driving it isn't just about you and the cars in front, there are also cars behind you that can be affected by your choices.
Well, I do only overtake on roads where I can see far enough ahead to be 100% sure I'm not going to hit something coming the other way. It's irresponsible to do otherwise IMO.
In the siutation you describe it would have been YOU I would have been swearing at had I witnessed it. You expected the overtaking driver ahead of you to go faster than he did. You were wrong and nearly caused a serious accident. He was going fast enough to overtake safely. You were overtaking when it wasn't safe to do so. What right do you have to dictate that he speeds to overtake so that you can too? How frightening to have some speed demon driving up your !!!! when you're overtaking in a safe manner. You were all lucky to come out of it unscathed.
Can I ask the reason it was so urgent that you passed that vehicle? Was your wife giving birth on the seat beside you? Were you on your way to save someone's life? Was your house on fire?
Edited to add: sorry, I just reread your post and I can see the other driver was going too slowly to overtake safely. I still think you were wrong to follow him though, as was borne out by the resulting near accident. You have to allow for other people being stupid, whether it's speeding or going too slowly.0 -
i'm not even going to respond to your baiting. Its all you're waiting for so you can get a kick out of it and entertain your pointless existance. The person in the car infront was barely passing the car and you, again, decide to pass judgement on me calling me a 'speed demon'.
that's the second time you're decided that you know everything about me and my driving which just goes to indicate that you have the mental aptitude of a grape.
See, there's even proof of it.0
