To all the people who hate Jobseekers, I really hope you one day realize the truth of what its like.

And believe me harder times are coming.... NOW is the time to protect the welfare system.

You only hate Jobseekers more than bankers, because you watch too much TV/Radio/newspapers.

    How did the interview go?
  • wow i missed a lot, would like to say my daughter has got the job and luckily they are letting her have the 2 days (1 full day and 1 half day) off for her degree, so she will be working 3 days a week, studying 2 days a week (or 1 and half) and still have her weekends for her voluntary job........

hardly lazy is it imoneyop????? as for her degree being worthless, how can you say that when you dont have any idea what she is working towards? When she is fully qualified she has a full time placement waiting, but, SHE MUST BE FULLY QUALIFIED before she can take this posting, that means she must have her M.A and her B.A..., she already has one and is halfway through the other.

Can i just say, this is my first experience on these boards and only looked on here for advice after being told what a nice lot you were, i must say some (not all) are very bigoted themselves and jump to a lot of conclusions.

AND I STATE ONCE AGAIN, NO WAY IS MY DAUGHTER CLAIMING FRAUDELENTLY - SHE ASKED HER ADVISOR THIS MORNING BEFORE HER INTERVIEW AND TOLD HER ABOUT WHAT WAS SAID ON HERE, AS HER ADVISOR SAID; YOUVE GOT YOUR WIRES MIXED UP SOMEWHERE BUT IF YOU WANT HER JOB YOU ARE WELCOME TO TRAIN FOR IT AND LEARN THE RULES!!:T

I've done her job. IAG is the only real training they get and the rest you learn as you go because rules change so much :D

Congratulations to your daughter. You had all that panic and done all that complaining for nothing, eh?

Benefits questions usually lead to controversy and confrontation, peculiarpetulia, don't be put off, join in the other threads, there's lots of nice friendly people here!
  • I think the majority of people who were asking about the course she was on and if she was allowed to sign on (myself included) was more about concern of there being a mix up and your daughter getting into trouble further down the line.

she might not have actually had a full time job but she has had the odd part time jobs over the years but, unfortunately, the shops have fallen to the recession and closed down. She then used her spare time to do voluntary work, which in my mind is contributing and not being paid for it. She has tried to get another part time job but nothing is available so, rather than just sitting on her butt she is working damn hard in a voluntary capacity instead. Myself and the wife (her parents) have worked all our lives as have our own parents, so, she does come from a family that have contributed.

If she wanted to do admin work like the job centre are making her she wouldve gone down that route instead of the art route, but, her talents lay with art, she has a talent which would be shameful to waste. We all have our strengths so why should we ignore them.

If everyone thought about not bothering to be educated and just go straight to work there would be no professionals about. Our son works in the medical field and also did uni to reach his target but, luckily for him he was allowed to then carry on learning on the job. He self-funded by having a job at the time too rather than use student finance, but, only because hed already got the job and was given the opportunity.

And my daughter is no way spoilt, she is the kindest, genuine person ever who would go out of her way to help anyone - i just dont like how this world is treating her. Ok, we may have mollycoddled her a bit but, thats what you do with your kids if you love them. She couldve been saddled with a couple of kids by now but she has made the decision not to and wouldnt be so selfish as to bring kids into the world she knows she doesnt want and cant keep.

All very good, and of course all loving parents support their children as best they can, can't argue with that.

BUT Jobseekers' Allowance is for those seeking work, so quite why you are so annoyed that they should expect her to do so is beyond me.

Give up the JSA and then she can find a part-time job of her own choosing, if you don't like the terms and conditions of claiming.

Edited to add: I see she has got the job and can also continue with her studies, so situation irrelevant now.

Rise above it, look for the good information and ignore the crap. I wonder if the same people actually get out and do something about the issues that they seem so bothered about?
