When trying to make a serious social change, you might want to adopt a language that sounds less mental.
People don't take melodrama from herbalists, they accept empirical evidence from true analysts
please don't tell me how to act or what to do.
thanks.
can i tell you to not judge?0 -
Well art dealers and antique companies may require that kind of qualification
Artists throughout history were renown for bring poor and starving. If she is not entitled, that supermarket can pay her bills, or take some cash out of your own pocket and support her.0 -
So OP's daughter has to take a job or sign off. Seems fair enought to me.
Plenty of people do masters degrees part-time while working and their lives aren't ruined. So it may take a little longer than anticipated. And? Rein in the melodrama OP.
Seems more than fair to me.Slimming World at target0 -

Yes, it could be better, but until after you have gone to a socialist country, only then after will you see the benefits of capitalism.0 -
Depending on where you live have you spoken to the funding body about loans or just gather information from the web? When i did a second degree i was not eligible for any grants or tuition fee help however i could still apply for the loan part. However depending on where you live it can be different.0

Some of the replies on this forum have made me log back in and leave a post.
We have a government that has let the bankers rob over 1 Trillion from the taxpayers purse. and nobody says a thing.
Yet a young girl would rather do Art than work for mr tesco's and your attacking her for following her dream!! what happened to the empathy in your soul.... where has it gone?
not everyone is born to work as a slave to the tax system. if you are, then thats fine but don't have a go at a free human, striving to improve their quality of life and knowledge.
your all forgetting what it is to be human... thinking that striving and paying bills and taxes is the only way. It is not. you should be ashamed. and never judge a person till you have walked a mile in there shoes.....
also you need to REMEMBER a few home truths.....
economic slavery is exactly the same as slavery.... except some people just can't see it.
Did you forget that slavery is illegal? forcing someone to work for you is slavery. (yes the government and tesco are the same)
anyone remember what facism is?? its when the state is taken over by corporations - (you should look into that).
if the banksters had not nicked all our money, this young girl would be getting a student GRANT to pursue her dreams. LIKE MANY OF YOU DID.
All i'm saying is that the media and this government are playing the divide and rule strategy (again) poor against poorer in this case.
and you lot have fallen for it. so hang your head in shame and go and help a homeless person. because when it all gets really bad. the people who were protecting the banks and there puppets in government will be shunned and hated the most.

As a side issue how long has she been claiming Jobseekers Allowance?
Anyway I am afraid what she is claiming is Job Seekers Allowance NOT Part-Time-Job Seekers Allowance. I don't mean that to be facetious but that is what the benefit is and when you sign up to receive it you agree to be willing to take on full time work and give up any study. It is just not designed to support study.
I do appreciate how you feel but Jobseekers is not the benefit for her if she isn't in a position to take up a full time position, it's just not designed to accomodate study above work.
That said it doesn't pay a lot so if she could find work of more then 16 jours per week that fits round her study she wouldn't be able to claim it anyway as the work would pay more then the benefit.
I am guessing she can't find that kind of work and therein lies the problem I'm afraid.
The only other suggestion I can make is that she commits to full-time study and goes fo a grant instead.
BTW - provided she told the Jobcentre she was studying no she has not been claiming fraudulently.0 -
ignoring all the arguments about the economy, job seekers, etc, an alternative could be for your daughter to continue remote study if she can't afford to study without the JSA. The Open College of the Arts runs distance learning courses in a wide range of subjects up to and including an MA - much cheaper than bricks and mortar uni (currently doing a degree myself). And whilst I really hope your daughter enjoys a fulfilling and lucrative career in the art world, the link below may be of some use. Not necessarily the article itself but the comments give a good insight into what is really needed to succeed in this field! I wish your daughter luck

It is not clear what the person realy will end up doing but I supect this sector need you to have experience.
scraping around for irrelevent part time jobs for money is likely to be the wrong aproach to career progresion.
with a first degree under their belt they should be working in the sector allready.
It might be for free as a volunteer intern or self employed doing "stuff".
I wonder how many true free hours they have after the work they should be putting in for this course?
I wonder if OP has a SAHPS and does not know it yet.

Ok, we may have mollycoddled her a bit but, thats what you do with your kids if you love them. She couldve been saddled with a couple of kids by now but she has made the decision not to and wouldnt be so selfish as to bring kids into the world she knows she doesnt want and cant keep.
No it isn't. When you love your kids, you teach them to take responsibility for their actions. You teach them that when you make choices, you accept the consequences of them (in the case of your daughter, she picked the wrong degree, and yet think that the tax payers should be for her subsequent, unlikely to lead to anything, degree because of her mistake in the first place?).
Your daughter could have been saddled with some kids OR she could have taken some work to build her CV with some proper experience, and whilst doing so, and earning a living supporting herself, do her art degree part-time.
If you are such a loving parent, instead of teaching your daughter a false sense of entitlement, why didn't you provide her with a loan to finance her studies?0
