Thanks everyone i do have an issue with over thinking and getting stressed easily-which i need to keep to a minimum as it does my health no good!
Just have to make sure the kids are on board and won't go around dragging muddy boots back through where i have cleaned. Boys.

I need to make a new list for 2014
think of something to put on it!:rotfl:
Try harder for 2014 as I never managed it in 2012 or 2013

I can completely relate to that :D

This is your home though, not a show home where you cant get on with living and being relaxed. Something I am sure your friends will appreciate. I hope you enjoy their visit.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I usually work on the principle of 'what would I be most embarrassed about if they turn up NOW' and start there.

I'd say bathroom (the loo and sink and make sure there's a clean towel out)

and then maybe make sure the sofa is relatively crumb-free (unlike ours:o) so people can sit on it.

The worst I experienced when visiting someone else's house was when they gave me tea in a really dirty cup. I think it had bits of biscuit still stuck to it, it was so gross. I've not got a strong stomach when it comes to things like that.

Just make sure the house smells fresh - so open windows and don't spray tonnes of air freshener in a panic :)
  • Front door, hallway, toilet (in the pan) and put the seat down, bathroom, lounge and kitchen, open windows, let in fresh air.

Front door, smell when door opens, what I had to sit on, my cup (thanks other poster) toilet seat, pan and sink, clean towel, handwash, kitchen table and sink, is kitchen clean? dog hair, having to sit on it, uuuugh hideous, and the smell of fags YUK

  • I always start by plugging in a new air freshener, into the plug socket by the entrance door. Nothing better than walking into a nice smelling house. do the kitchen first, then the toilet, and then do mirrors/glass/light switches (and around them, mucky hand marks!).

After that I make sure everywhere is tidy on the surface. So stuff gets bunged into nearest cupboards, clothes get slung in the wardrobe, etc.

After that, I hoover, mop floors (apartment is all laminate), clean entertainment area (open plan living area!), study area, and by then I'm bored and the Xbox is on. Stuff the visitors, I need to finish my floating cloud castle on minecraft. :p

Thanks for all the ideas, just what i needed. Going to print my list out and start with what what the kids won't wreck too quickly. Porch for example will need to be done last minute as boys make too much muddy mess in there.
