Panic-visitors coming tuesday need your advice of what to clean.

Ok i have invited some old friends around (as in i haven't seen them for years!) i want to make a good impression but i'm getting stressed about what i really need to get done in time or not.

If you were visiting what would you not want to see or think should be clean?

My front garden is a bit of a tip so i know that needs doing. But then i know i'm being daft when i start thinking of cleaning out all of the cupboards. I need a sensible list please...

Bathroom, mainly. And kitchen if they are likely to use it (sink, fridge, cooker). Personally I am not too bothered about dust.
  • Bathroom and kitchen I'd say.

As long as the front room is tidy and there is somewhere for them to sit.

Cupboards? Don't be silly! Sit them down, give them tea/coffee and cake and as long as the bathroom is clean you should get away with a fair rumpus elsewhere.

Bollards to the front garden.. tell them your gardener is ill :p

Get the bathroom and kitchen cleaned.. they won't be spying in your cupboards so stuff clutter in the ones you use least..

Clear the hallway so their first impression is tidiness.

Kitchen and bathroom! they are the priorities to give a good impression. Then living room, and only if you have time, do the front garden.
ignore cupboards and drawers - if they do snoop they wont dare say anything anyway! and isn't EVERYONES cupboards a mess? I know mine are!

Bathroom, kitchen and a quick hoover and dust of the sitting room or whatever room you're going to be using most.
I don't mind people thinking I'm untidy, as long as the important bits are reasonably hygienic. A bit of dust doesn't worry me too much.

Just make sure your loo's clean and the kitchen's presentable. I know we all like to make a good impression but they're coming to see you, not your house x.

Just try and think about what they're actually going to see - so if they'll be sitting in the living room make sure that's tidy with somewhere for them to sit, bathroom should be clean and I would say probably the kitchen if they're likely to making a brew or something.
Things like bedrooms just close the door on them, and they would be slightly odd friends if they were likely to go rooting through your cupboards, surely? :)
Also try and remember the main thing is that they're coming to see you not to judge the tidiness of your house, so try not to get too stressed about it and just enjoy seeing them x

If you want to give a good impression, then do the opposite of cupboards - clean windows and mirrors. It's one of the secrets of a good cleaner, as it helps make the room light and airy.

If you have a table in the middle of the room, then clear that - bung everything into one of those cupboards as necessary. Creating blocks of non-cluttered spaces is good.

Otherwise, just make sure that everyone has a space to sit in comfortably! :)

Do your friends come to snoop in your cupboards or to spend time with you? If they are just visiting for the day then get the kitchen, bathroom and downstairs rooms clean, tidy and hoovered.

If they are staying over then do a clean and tidy upstairs and get the spare room freshened up and welcoming.

A friends visit is meant to be something you look forward to not get stressed out about. They are coming to see you and catch up not rate your domestic goddess skills. Unless your friends are Kim and Aggie in which case do a top to toe blitz.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

As long as you have a clean toilet and somewhere to sit that would do for me.

Remember they are coming to see you - not to mark your housekeeping skills. xx
