I'm a nanny and used almost every type of buggy/pram there is on the market, this is one area I would say spend as much as you can afford a good quality buggy will last until your child is walking, most are not as bulky as they once were and can easily fit on buses and in car boots. Also the more expensive brands usually push easier IMO there therefore long-term benefits your body.
I would recommend PhilandTed as easily to fold, fit in most boots and if you have another you only had to add the back seat for £60.
Quinnys are OK if your mainly using the car. Not sure how easy to fold but there aren't too expensive and often on some websites are bundled together with a maxi-cosi car seat.
Bugaboo Bea's are pretty small, with the cacoon flat for a newborn, stroller like so no need to buy a stroller afterwards. They are more expensive but have good resale value on ebay.0 -
I have the Chicco 4 me and love it. I bought it as my 2nd pram when dd2 was few weeks old as my big pram wouldnt fit in the car and I wanted a trolley that would face me. I use it all the time and we even took it abroad.

Like a few others have said I would go around and have a look at them as it really is personal choice. Are you anywhere near Peterborough? If you are the Kiddicare independant baby shop is great for window shopping for prams/buggies - they basically have them all in their show room. You can push them around, fold them up and the staff all seem to know about them all and are really helpful. Their carseat dept and fitting service is also really good! We have to travel quite a way to get there but have always gone there first for everything! We decided what pram we wanted from there and then got it from a more local John Lewis - John Lewis price matched them! We got it much cheaper than John Lewis was selling it for!
(I have a Silvercross Linear freeway travel system with ventura car seat and a silvercross pop as a stroller for using in and out of the car now ds is older incase you want to ask about those prams/buggies, i also have a second hand 3 wheeler buggy for going for walks through woods/mud etc - ebay is good if you want to get second hand buggies to try out and then re-sell maybe?)SAHM Mummy tods (born Oct 2007) and dd (born June 2010)0 -
I'd say look at your budget first - that will narrow it down. I wanted something that could go off road and OH hates shopping so when I pointed out an urban detour (our first pram shopping trip, first shop, first pram) he just said perfect, get it . I did go on Ebay and found a brand new with car seat for £150, which suited our lowly budget.
This summer I went looking for a little buggy only because we needed it for a holiday and there's only so much space on a plane after I pack my bags :rotfl:.
I loved the UD, it's like a tank, able to carry anything you throw at it, and when you go on a day out with the kitchen sink in your bag, that's important. The buggy (because I didn't go with maclaren) is not as much fun to push. I only use it because it happens to live in my car. Oh I was very close to getting the Nippi 360 - gorgeous, but it wasn't sufficiently different from the UD to spend on.
The Phil and Ted is on my wish list for when the little one comes. But at those prices I'll probably stick to what I have... Second hand ones seem icky and in need of repair
PS - I hated the slings/carriers, never got the hang of them, baby was either suffocating (in my mind) or my back was killing me.:wall:0 -
Hoping this is in the right place!
I'm just starting to look around at prams etc (18weeks pregnant so plenty of time yet) want to make sure I don't miss any bargain deals or at least know how much we need to save up!
I want a system that has a removable seat unit so carseat can fit on the chassis.
It needs to be lightweight, small folding (small car boot) and not too expensive (I'm tight and hubby can't believe the price of some prams!)
It will mostly be used for city use, shops, short walks and in and out of the car alot so don't need to worry about any 'off road' style things.
Don't particularly like the ones with massive rear wheels that have to be removed to fit in the boot but also don't want something that the wheels will wear out quickly on as if I pay good money I'd like to get good use out of it!
So, not that much to ask is it?! :rotfl:0 -
Mamas and papas pliko switch, (dont know if im allowed to post links but i will and if needs be will remove it)
http://www.mamasandpapas.com/product-switch-city-scape/185648800/type-i/
These are great and the seat unit can be removed so the car seat can go straight on to the frame x
Also it can be picked up relativly cheap on ebay
As can a bebe confort loola again like the switch it is unbrella folding, and car seat can be fixed to the chassis
And both will take a carrycot if you want, both are fairly nippy for town use, and bothe are forwar and rearward facing puschairs sutable to 4 years old xThere's this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. It's the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me.

How about this one from Kiddicare? They have a few to choose from all under £200 depending on what accessories you want to go with such as foot muff, changing bag etc.

A couple here under £100 but may be better suited to someone who knows what sex the baby will be. Although i do like the bluey coloured one which i would use for either a boy or girl.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

Thanks have looked at the Loola already and it seems to get good reviews from what I can find, a possibility definately.
Not overly keen on the M&P ones just as I find the car seats expensive and heavy as well.0 -

I've just found kiddiecare a few days ago when searching and they seem to have some relly good offers on, have been looking at the bebeconfort streety on there as they have a great offer on the whole package but then reading through things online it doesn't seem to get very good reviews...problems with wheels getting worn very quickly and it not being good going up and down kerbs.
We had a graco (4yrs ago) with DD and it was so heavy and bulky that it was used until she was just over a year old and then we swapped to a lightweight buggy, think thats why I don't want to make the same mistake again!0 -
In the days when i had my 3 you had no option but to get heavy prams. When i had my boys i had to have a tandem one of the long types as the side by side ones were too flimsy and couldnt maneouvre them round the shops like you can today. My tandem had me looking like a body builder by the time the lads could walk cos of the amount of weight in it you had to jump on the handles to get it to go up kerbs.
Alot of the prams today all have similar 'shelf lives' and will only give a decent amount of usage time if shown respect. All too often do you see them loaded up like mules with endless amounts of shopping dragging of the handles. This is not the purpose they were intended for.
If you have a Clearance Bargains near you (ex argos stoock) it may be worth having a nosey in there as they have recently started stocking Graco items due to a big cancelled order - i know this as my brother worked in the warehouse that had to pick the stock for distribution.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j
