Ah does the quinny buzz not have two different seats, so really it does upto 18months then you have to go buy a new seat. Tricky tricky sods.

Were not going for the 'warm carrycot' side of things.

In 36 days were flying out to cyprus to live there for 3 years. So baby will be born into cyprus weather in July, so really warm isnt the best thing in the world, but more insect proof, open to vent, light to push, good for rough surfaces / roads.

So is the new pram wanted to suit the Cyprus lifestyle more than the current pram in the house?

If she wants it, you can afford it and ship it, then why not let her have a new pram?

Personally, I was too MSE to change prams between kids - I just don't understand people who are pram junkies! I used to walk everywhere with mine, and whilst the travel system was bulky, it was sturdy and I didn't see the point in forking out £100+ just for that little bit of easier steering.

DS had nephew's old travel system. I got a maclaren for him at 6 months old on adv card pts. DD came along and slinged her for 4 months (refused to buy a double for 22 months apart kids) until DS was sturdy on a buggy board (new from tesco - mispriced, so £20). DS on buggy board, DD in maclaren. Recently sold buggy board on ebay for £38, travel system went on freecycle last year and MIL is having the maclaren as a spare for my niece, who's arriving any day now.

Overall spend for 2 children's pram years £ -18.

Many people find they rarely wheel their baby for this length of time anyway. It is worth considering how you are likely to be 'out and about' with the baby before you invest in a special carrycot. I don't recall ever having my babies out walking for two hours - particularly before they were 6 months, and so never needed a lie-flat (I was/am very car reliant though!). I also used to put mine in a sling for longer journeys. Slings are well worth considering as an alternative to a travel system for the first six months. That way you can go straight to a Maclaren umbrella-fold, which will see you through until your child is a confident walker :D.

Ah. I am out of the house from 10am, till 4pm most days, and Lilia is in the pram for a lot of that time (obviously she comes out at play groups and when we go somewhere to eat!) so a good lie-flat pram is imperative for us. I do use a sling sometimes, but she likes the pram and it's good for hanging bags on as well.

I never use the car seat on the chassis - I'd rather pop her in the sling for short trips, but for long trips, we use the pram. Although I'm getting some new slings of different types so might go back to wearing her more.

I have a quinny buzz, and while it was ok new I would urge you not to buy one second hand.

The wear and tear of one owner takes its toll on the brakes (mine are useless now and were not very good to begin with). And the wheels are a pain in the backside to pump up because the valves are rubbish. So my wheels are always squishy which is now making it difficult to manoevre.

If I have another baby I will certainly be buying something else - it's driving me mad!

Pram needs to be good for off road use.

I say this as pretty much once you get off the main roads, your onto sand / stones underfoot. Often not even, so a small 4 wheeler would be pretty much a nightmare.

Ideally, good steering, good offroad use, large tyres to get over things.

Why not look at a LandRover or Jeep 3-wheeler type then, rather than the Quinny? They would seem to be more suited to what you need...

The Maxi Cosi Mura would be ideal for that

  • I also have a Quinny Buzz & whilst I loved it when my little girl was a baby now that she is nearly two I have to say that I find it really difficult to push the blooming thing :( I don't enjoy it now at all. It is really heavy & a complete nightmare for the wheels locking up.

Looks fab & was fab whilst I was using the carrycot & clip on car seat but if I had my time again I would not have spent such a silly amount of money on this very lovely looking strawberry Quinny Buzz...Just shhhhh! If my husband was to ever her me say that I would be in serious trouble!

OP - how often have you used the current pram? My dh didn't understand why I was thinking of getting a new pushchair (original cost £46) until he used it for a week on holiday, when he would last @ five mins.

A serious suggestion, take your little one out for a walk in the pushchair etc to somewhere like a beach or park but off the paths. Then go to somewhere like Mothercare or Mamas and Papas and push some of their models around You will be able to assess the difference and make logical notes. Also assess how easy it will be to get a replacement you like in Cyprus, or will it be different models and perhaps more expensive.

I had to sacrifice a lot of features in my pushchair that I would have liked to ensure I got one that I could physically get in and out of the house. I learned by experience and the second pushchair (£18) is far more suited to my needs.

Edited to add - ebay shops often stock end of lines, last years models, overstock for baby items and you can get a perfectly good brand new item from ebay at an extremely reasonable price. You just need to be a little canny about checking things like feed back and how long they have been established. Due to health issues I couldn't get out so nearly all my baby stuff came from ebay, lots of it absolutely brand new, perfectly acceptable, very safe and remarkably inexpensive.
