Why would anyone want old shoes? Or am I better off not considering the reasons?
Not 100% sure, but I think it's some popular fetish.

Went to the opticians this morning - apparently I am starting down the slippery slope of needing varifocals as I struggle with really small print (luckily now it is only the really small stuff, I can still thread a needle for example) so I am OK for a year or two. I did mention that I seem to have trouble with text (any size) with long strings of numbers with no breaks - things like 7979556655666556 (put in commas or gaps 555,666 or 5556 6655665 and it is fine), the optician didn't seem to have too many clues beyond asking about dyslexia which as far as I know I haven't. Anyone come across anything similar?

NDG I find everyone's back stories interesting so don't be put off from posting please.

I like people's back stories (and current stories) too. :)

Interesting about your trouble with numbers. I think most people find long strings of numbers easier if they have breaks in them - that's why 16 digit credit card numbers are broken up into 4 blocks of 4 on the card, isn't it?

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    Waves from LA.

Survived the flights. About as hot here as it is in Hertfordshire.

True tourists: rodeo drive, Santa Monica beach, the "Hollywood" sign, Beverley hills.

On topic. Satnav hire from the car hire people was £6 a day. UK firms hire sat nav with USA maps for around £35. We got someone to buy us a satnav out here a few weeks ago and bring it back to the UK, cost £67. Then we can flog it on EBay or FB. It's a decent Garmin, cost about £100 in UK, so hopefully turn a profit.

Gen, SC, CK, all spend time in other countries and I wonder how much it's worth tuning into
    a) stuff from home
    b) global stuff from the US we all watch
    c) local good stuff like the Returned/all these Scandinavian detective series?

I spend a month a year in the States. When I meet up with my friends there, I check out their latest recommendations for TV and they want to know what's showing here. They love Sherlock and Downton Abbey. They've got me hooked on Elementary (there may be a theme here), along with a number of others over the years. My biggest issue is it is hard to get F1 over there. It just isn't on mainstream TV.

Speaking of the USA, have a great time Silver!

I've no idea who Nikki from BB is. I don't watch it. I've watched a few early episodes, but never really got into it - especially when they started having "posh channels" giving more footage than my free TV gets; it makes you feel annoyed, angry, pee'd off and excluded..... ergo I walk away, completely disinterested.

I haven't the slightest idea why people watch BB. It just seems to be about really dull, awful people sitting around. Yet, the mystery remains that some people get really excited about it.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I watched the first couple of series and found it interesting, then it just got weirder and weirder. Not weird in a quirkeriffic NPT way, but in a wouldn't want to meet them in a dark alley way (if that's where you meet drama queens). Then enough was enough.
