I've never understood the places that separate all the recyclables, requiring you to have a system of 3-5 separate bags for each item, of different colours. It'd probably be more cost efficient to run the "all your recyclables - here's a list" system because people can misunderstand, or not bother, so all those individual bags would still need sorting through by staff. I'd have thought it better to have one bag, with staff to sort through it all at the depot.

Many people don't recycle because it's "too hard" - and it is. I don't even know what cardboard is..... e.g. is a corrugated pizza box cardboard? what about egg boxes? Shiny/printed meal for one boxes? Too hard. To me they are all cardboard, as are loo roll inserts, kitchen towel inserts, stiff envelopes... and more.

We have 2 bins. One black for general rubbish and one blue for recycling. One bin a week. If I forget I drag both out and remember the other for next week. I feel sorry for the bin men in thus weather though as we don't have a food recycling bin.

We compost our veg scraps but not cooked stuff and meat (mostly ones) but still 2 weeks worth must still pong.

The bins (grey) start to smell after just a few days in this heat:eek:

My council has a list on their website. It is pretty much all of the cardboard you describe. I don't know about egg boxes though as I don't buy eggs so not sure what they (egg boxes) are made of, but all the other stuff I can recycle. The only cardboard they don't like is the stuff that is foil-lined, but I know it isn't the same for every council so worth checking.

We have had notices that cardboard has been moved from green to brown, due to people leaving staples and sticky tape. Brown is all recyclable that is then re-sorted further along the chain. In hot weather we are instructed it is acceptable to put food waste in whichever been is being collected next - green or black. In practice probably only put in recyclables about 80% of what I could, the rest is too much faff. Plus the request to wash (and therefore waste water) things before putting in recycling seems wrong.

I have been thinking about hiring a portaloo for radioactive week or so.

It doesn't sit well to have that stuff go into our water treatment scented and grey water recycling centre, and ultimately lake cake where we swim and water our food from

But then if it goes into mains system usually is it any different? I really don't know anything about this sort of stuff and when I called and asked the hospital they said no one else on a septic tank or water treatment centre has ever asked if its ok really. But loads of people receiving cancer treatment face this, so the question should arise all the time.

It probably won't still be radioactive by the time it gets through the system to lake cake. Medical procedures are usually done with isotopes that only have a half-life of a few hours, so after several days there's pretty much none left. If you can find out what isotope they will be putting into you, I can find out for you what its decay chain is, and how long it will be before everything's safe.

We have a green wheelie bin for general rubbish, a black or green box for all recyclables (all in the same box but they like you to sort them to make it quicker for the bin men to post all the bits into the right hoppers on their lorry), and a food waste caddy. You get given a small caddy to keep in the kitchen and a bigger one to empty the small one into and put out for collection. The food waste goes weekly, and the rubbish and recyclables alternate, on the same day as the food, so they're fortnightly.

My one gripe about it is that its range of recyclables collected at the kerbside is a bit limited - it takes glass jars/bottles, steel and aluminium cans/tins, paper, cardboard, and plastic bottles, but no other plastics. My dad's kerbside collection takes all those and also all kinds of plastic pots & containers, foil containers (like pies come in, or takeaways), batteries, and tetrapak-type cardboard for containing fluids. Here we can only recycle those things if we take them to the tip. Our tip is on the opposite side of town from me, so it's easier just to stockpile that stuff until I see my dad, and give him a few bags-full to put out in his kerbside box.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

It's no trouble. It's the kind of thing they set exam questions about - dead easy versions of the calculations for GCSE and more complicated ones at AS/A2. Can I use you as an example in my class this autumn?? ;)

You wouldn't say that if you'd seen the state of the boat.

It made Captain Pugwash look glamourous. :D

Was that the one with Roger the cabin boy and Seaman Staines? :D
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
