I know it is probably true, but I never quite believe that.

I also panic at the thought they may find something untoward while I'm lying there.

I have no reason to be needing any investigations at the moment other than not knowing if things could be hereditary and for that reason alone, best practice is to be investigated 15 years before the age when a first degree relative got ill.

But we don't know if what he had was hereditary other than his father also had it (but its a common C) and even if it is hereditary there is a 50/50 chance I haven't inherited. Less if it follows a male gene pattern.

A year before he got ill he was sent a routine poo kit in the post - that he binned, having said he would do it if he had any symptons. Of course we will never know if it would have picked up anything. His double bad luck was that it spread incredibly quickly as well as getting it in the first place.
In fact we once commented that all his investigations were external scans and blood tests - he never once had anything like lir has had.

    Do it.

Prep like I did, it minimises any embarrassing potential. I'll even recommend my doctor if you can have it done privately combining a trip to visit your mother down the m4. ( though seems excessive, I doubt for all his nice personality and sense of humour he is the only good butt man...I just picked him at random).

There is really nothing to be embarrassed about. And really, they were only talking about my bowel rather than music because I kept asking them, 'hey, what's that?'

Sme one who was more shy and less gruesomely interested they would probably let you pretend you were just not there. :D.

Vitally dear, dear Silvercar, in some years time, your sons might need this investigation too. They need to see you head off for it if not as full of enthusiasm as me, then at least not shamefacedly or practicing avoidance. If you are too embarrassed for your own good, then I have little shame in pulling the be a good mother line put of the bag.

My dad has had polyps and they like to remove them for the cancer risk, he has had it done a couple of times. I don't know if that means I might be more likely to need to have that in the future. But if I am I can tell you I am totally unconcerned about it.

(Btw, i used a Vaseline /sudo cream tip for the klean prep was pretty good. Think where that geezer out of 50 shades might put it and keep applying. I don't know if it might have been tender without, but I didn't have to find out.)

    QUOTE]

That would be me then. I have had a couple of similar procedures in recent years and cope best by just 'getting through it'. On both occassions it was to confirm I did not have something, cancer as I went through changes and rapid weight loss (found it all again though) and crohns, as genetically the maternal female line are predisposed. Silvercar - if you cannot embrace it as LiR has done, you are not alone, I am a complete prude over such things, so just get on with it. You have to bear in mind that staff have chosen this specialty so it is all normal to them.

In my case the worst of things were ruled out which was what I wanted to hear. It was Giardia which is not something you usually get where I live and everyone clinical was asking me where I had travelled. My best guess was I probably got it from eating unwashed fruit.

But if you think about what they do as their day job, that is literally what they do all day.

A supermarket cashier will be scanning barcodes all day for people to buy things
A gynaecologist will be looking at undercarriages all day to diagnose diseases.

As they both see all sorts of people in all sorts of situation :)

Doctors have been trained for all sorts of people but they can't diagnose it if they don't know about it.

    It is true.

Perfect time for investigations then - more likely than not all will be as it should, and if not you have maximised your chances of it being straightforward to treat.
Personally I find smear tests a lot more embarrassing, but they are also something not to be avoided.

I just followed the standard prep, but made sure that I completely followed it just to make sure - it worked fine. If it hadn't, I would have reminded myself that I followed the instructions properly and I'm sure not all patients do so... so the clinicians would have seen worse!

I'll read everything when I get home (should be between 6 and 7)

Off to London in a minute, as we've agreed to drive the girls and some of their friends to Leicester today for a school trip.

If anyone was thinking about drinking in London tonight, we're not opening until 4, as my sister's going to help for a few hours (she works until 3.30) until we get back :)

    I'll see you later!

Yep, they told me lots, and lots of people don't manage to drink all the prep stuff.

As we discussed, its not what you would order out, but its bearable. It's a bit of a mind game how you deal with it I think. But by taking the consultants advice on lengthening preprep diet beyond the standard recommendation I think the prep day was much easier. If you don't finish The risk is of course, you don't get clean enough and have to go back if you don't get it good enough. It's not really worth doing twice if you are squeamish about doing it once. :)

There is no doubt they see all sorts worse and don't worry about it. I'm thinking more of the embarrassment of people like silver car than people like them who do not turn a hair.

Ok, here is another example, silver car. You know how hard this year has been for me with losing the girls? Well, my equine podiatrist has old girl's legs in her freezer ( people like us do things like that....i'll return the favour for her one day....its tough iln the emotionally raw weeks, but if you don't know the animal or its not yours you get a little blase about moving legs about your frozen peas). and one day ina. Few months I hope to go over and dissect old girls legs with her.

It's not that I have ceased to love old girl, or that I feel any differently, its that the scientific curiosity over what is going on in there overrides any squeamishness about it being old girl. If I knew enough about brains I'd want to have a look at the tip our in her head too ( I and my vets saught to find someone doing research of a suitable quality in to the condition she suffered from to do her justice but we couldn't find any one so didn't pursue that). If it were the body of a horse I had no emotional conflict with the delay would have been less. If I had access to an environment like a lab the body parts I was interested in looking at of hers would not be limited to the distal limbs......but her feet will be fascinating.

Sorry, carried away on the example. But that's rather the point.....we are interested ion our subjects, not squeamish, not embarrassed.

I'm off to do battle in the High Court - have fun, all NPs.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

For some reason that doesn't bother me, I look at the screen and asks questions.

If this thread is still going when I am 55 you have my permission to nag me about getting it done. I hope that technology has moved on by then and all this bottom stuff can be done less invasively .
