Its really nice to be able to do ATM actually. We're both a bit not used to it and slept like logs all night....no waking each other up.

We have been trying to roughly match our exterior paint colour at low expense, just to make the new utility tie in visually. We'll reprint the whole lot at some point rather soon, but we have found its really hard to match paint colours. First attempt was too pale and second attempt is too dark. But we think it will do. It's just to make it look less raw and more cohesive until the whole lot is done.

The existing paint colour is a yellow, but sort of patchy like its been colour washed. It varies from almost cream to almost sand coloured. The one we chose today is sort of egg custard powder meets very yellow beach sand. It'll do. :)

We have to leave one side because of the hardboard there, we dare not take it off in case we cannot get it back on. We're undecided whether to get the door on or not.....we want the door but it will have to be removed when they take away the defunct boiler.

I think they've succesfully relied, thus far, on it not happening. Israel doesn't usually get through the group Europe stage anyway.
The one thing I find most baffling about geography is what with the continents being some of the biggest features on the pplanet, there's so much disagreement about how many there are, or which bits go with which continent.

Israels' in West Asia but so's Cyprus and it defo sounds European to me. I sometimes wonder how far the EU's prepared to grow.

It's close to a perfect day in mid-Kent - warm, sunny, slight breeze. It's really warm and lovely, but not too hot. Perfect!

Last night was really cold, though; I put the heating on for an hour and my parents were happy that I did!

We've been throwing balls for dogs, walking to the river and back (the bluebells are still glorious in the woods, although it's so late for them) and planting stuff. I've identified some tomatoes and cucumbers to half-inch and take back to London with me.

I wish we could stay a bit longer - Isaac's school must be the only one in the country that doesn't have half-term the week of the bank holiday. He's back for 4 days this week, and then half-term the week after.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

It's Sunday. I've got all week to get things done. Today I am chilling with a clear conscience. :)

How very strange. Why have they decided to do that? I thought the summer term was the one term of the year when one could rely on all schools having the same week. Certainly all secondary schools have to, because the exam boards have that week off the GCSEs and A-levels.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    Sounds like a heavenly day!

I'd love to have some river frontage. :). And we don't have enough trees here. The trees /woods are the main thing that leave wriggle room in whether this really is a forever house IMO.

We have some baby pears forming on one tree, but not sure about the other two that came into blossom at the same time. We hand pollinated as so few pollinators about at the time. There is one tree lazily thinking about blossoming now.....I shall have to shrug and tell it its pollinating cronies have flowered and gone already.

I am also delighted that one of the figs is still covered in baby fruit which are starting to swell in the heat. I hope it's a good year, I just love figs. Not sure about anything else. The horses munched the wine berry back to six inches from the ground and took the top of the kiwi vine too.

Oh currants, we have LOADS of baby currants.

How would you know? Print on demand is now of the same quality as offset printing. Most small publishers are moving to it in america ; they buy their own ISBN's and distribute it through the normal distributors on the same terms and at the same price as any other book.

I can't discuss buying processes. I'm not the buyer, it isn't my decision. However I know what I deal with on a day-to-day basis. Take travel guides for example, you're much more likely to see known-quantity items such as the Rough Guide or Lonely Planet for a destination than a well-written one off. I know because I use them when I go there that the best guides to Disneyworld are Brit's Guide by Simon Veness and the Unofficial Guide by Sehlinger, but you'll rarely see them in libraries. In fact I've just checked a large consortium and there are a couple of copies of Sehlinger, whereas you'll find umpteen copies of the Eyewitness guide for the same. This isn't necessarily about where I work, I'm a customer of and have cards for several library authorities.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the future. Smaller publishers are coming through with the new printing techniques at the same time Library Authorities are shrinking their pools of qualified librarians and outsourcing purchasing to consortia. It is these very librarians that would have sought out the more interesting items in the past.

It's funny you should say that about set times. One of my friend's sons has recently turned 18. He got called up for jury service one month before his A Levels. He wrote and appealed, but had to submit a second appeal before it was overturned. You'd think that common sense would suggest that you don't put 18 year olds into the pool for jury service during this period. His mum was very unhappy about the time and effort spent appealing, when he was trying to have his head stuck into other things.

    A quick skim through finds:
    AU$100,000 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1948-The-Nine-Bad-Shots-of-Golf-golfing-golfer-book-/270992090978

What sort of loon would pay $100k for a book that wasn't written by Jesus himself?

I suspect it's a viral marketing ploy/experiment, listing ends in a link to his other books ...

$100k and they still want to charge you P&P? Tightwads.

Crikey that was a l-o-n-g grand prix.

Sky just showed a flat just up from the start-finish line with Aberdeen and McLaren flags on the balcony and much drinking and merriment occurring. I wondered if it was Hamish.
