They had music at my school but like foreign languages I didn't take it, and for the same reason.
You need to practice an instrument for at least 30 minutes a day for it to be worthwhile, a 2 hour a week lesson where three quarters of the kids aren't interested / good just sounds like torture.0 -
In our school there was a wednesday afternoon slot for 'practical' lessons like cdt / music / home economics which were deemed to require more time. You studied a topic for a term or so, then went on to the next one.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I pay 1 arm + 1 leg for cello lessons for Generalissimo #1 and 1 arm + 1 leg for cello rental.
Cycling to work on Monday is likely to be problematic at best.
Not surprising with no arms and no legs...
I cunningly told my parents that £500pa for DD1 piano was outside our budget but it would be a lovely thing for them to treat herI think....0 -
Here are the rules, and we'll be joining in backstage!
I'm luckily having nothing to do with live editing/cameras this year!

Ah but would you have pitched it as 'we found a very cheap piano teacher only £15 per lesson' without leaving them to do the £500 per year maths...I think....0 -
Well, today has been exhausting! Hope we get a clearer run at things tomorrow than we did today.0

"As much as I like Eurovision, and have support for the songs I think will come near the top, I have some statistics for you;
50% of points is how you present yourself on stage
32% is what you're singing
10% is where you're geographically located
And 8% is how well you can actually sing!"
I disagree. Its eurovision.
90% is your country
5% is how you present
5% is how well you sing.
We are going to friends tonight, to watch eurovision. She has already said who she is voting for, only problem is they are not in the final. So it's a choice of what to eat, which direction to go - and which combination/permutation will work out for the best.
Can't decide on indian (none come recommended), chinese (only tried one and it was well overpriced and rest don't have menu online), or chip shop. If I go to the chippy I'd like a pie, but they're £2.20 and to buy one at the supermarket (same brand) is £1.70 (£1 at Asda but that's a £2.50 drive away) and then I'd have a cold pie and hot chips, so pie would need heating up and by then the chips'd be cold.
I hate big decisions ....
I am baking 'le cake' ( a Comte, ham and olive dense little loaf) and making a steak salad.
It's relatively posh nosh with steak , and we have a bottle of Cabernet merlot too.0 -
We're trying to sort some boxes out in the study this evening and it occurs to me to ask how many books people have from their childhoods still?
I am wondering if we have an unnatural amount. Dh has a whole box of kids books from the eighties about aviation, for example. I have equal numbers of girly equivalents...like pony stories.0 -

I have lots of mine. I wouldn't let mum get rid of my Roald Dahl or Meg and Mog collections0
